I used to have a tumble drier, but it decided to start smouldering.
Now I just turn the heating up and dry stuff on the radiators.
Instant air freshener (the conditioner - I don't use 'proper' air fresheners - if there's a smell, I search it out and get rid of it)) and a toasty-warm me :-D

Just to confuse, or add a bit of interest>>>>>>>>>>or not !

Son and dau have single beds , but have double duvets on them ,drapes down over the side and keeps them warm :)

Hubby and I have a double bed and have king-size duvet.

When we had our last new bed it had a very deep micro topped mattress and the double fitted sheets didn't fit ,so had to have king-size fitted sheets, Dad had a King-size duvet (new) on his spare double bed ..not being used so we swapped duvets. :)

I've got a kingsize duvet on a double bed too :-D :-D
Hides a multitude of junk under the bed.
Initially I bought one because when the children were young, and came into our bed, guess who was left without any duvet? :-|
I also tend to buy king sized top sheets too - I like a firm tuck in :-D

Chris.....Ironing fitted sheets you is spoiled!!

I'm with Maggie dry on radiators and let the conditioner work as air freshener, I have noticed lately cooking smells wafting in from next door, even when windows are closed haven't got a clue why :-S possibly the air bricks but that's a different story!

Brought back memories top to bottom, not possible any more with fitted sheets :-D

As I have tents, groundsheets and heaven knows what under bed I have to a KS on a double :-(

I change mine every time I think I will.

Use padded throws because duvet was too hot and have three on the go usually. One bottom, two top. They move down in turn.

It is quite hard to have enough washing to keep Fred happy so a throw often comes in handy when he has overtaken us on the clothes front.

Ironing fitted sheets !!
Well the middle may have a quick smooth over ;-)

Am I the first to admit it. I'm one of the 60%. Wash my sheets once a fortnight. Hardly ever sleep on them. Mostly fall asleep on the sofa.

It has also been said that sheets should be washed at 60 degrees to kill of the bed mites although I doubt anything survives Maggie's housekeeping. Dry them on an airer and sometimes give the pillowcases an iron.

Be interesting to know in addition to how often bedding is washed, how often mattresses are vacuumed and pillows / duvet are washed or cleaned. :-0

Once a week bed in the winter, more so in the summer. I simply have to have matching sets bedding and towels. I think I would prefer to sleep on the floor than get into a bed that has not been changed for a MONTH.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 22 Feb 2013 10:30

As we use two sheets and don't have a tumble drier the duvet cover does not get washed once a week.

Thinking about it, when we had sheets, blankets, eiderdown and bedspreads the eiderdown wasn't washable and the bedspread didn't get washed that often, the blankets probably annually. And we were all very healthy in our family. :-D

Daily summer, every other winter ; what is so difficult ?
whip off duvet cover, pillow cases and sheet, w/machine, tumble dryer and that's it. Fitted bottom sheet goes on in a tick, duvet cover two ticks.

A good reason for a daily change:

My biggest problem is that the cats like to jump all over the bed while I am sorting it out. Yeah, I do it not my wife 'cos it is king size, she is short and also disabled.

Is there anybody still using flanel sheets, woolen blankets, hard pillows and bolsters and eiderdowns ? Surely not.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 22 Feb 2013 10:43

Once a week for me too...even the bed in the spare room.which doesn't get used often....just because i like to walk into a room and smell the smell of clean sheets.

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 22 Feb 2013 10:50

Tea towels are changed several times a day, often, I have used 3 or 4 depending what I am doing. Dish cloths, I may have two on the go at the same time. These and towels get a boil in washing m/c. I put dishcloths in bleach to soak overnight.

IRON THEM ??????????
What on earth for after stuff has been tumble dried if it is taken out quickly then there will be no creases.

The duvets are all goose feather/duck down and go to an outside cleaner once a year. We have lightweight ones for what passes as a summer in England.

Dish cloths ? Yuk, disposable kitchen towels.

Glasses, plates etc come out of the dishwasher straight into cupboard /rack. No need for tea cloths.

Oven mitts - fairly often.

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 22 Feb 2013 12:17

Rollo there is always a need for tea cloths, not everything can be used/fitted in dishwasher. When I was mobile we still had a dog, each time I dropped a teacloth on floor, it was promptly put in washer and a clean one selected.

Always iron tea cloths - it kills the bugs.

Face flannels and tea cloths regularly boiled up in preserving pan!!

OH got a shock first time he hoovered mattress and under the little rosettes!

When I ironed I showed the iron to the fitted sheets! OH gives himself work he opens my nightshirts and slips them over the board and irons every bit.

Mind you I used to iron all the knickers - male and female ones!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 22 Feb 2013 12:30

OH irons all bedding, pyjamas, and normal things like shirts. Sweaters we can often get away with. But Rollo, if you read one of my posts, we do not have a tumble drier.
