Does that mean that my Internet Security Prog (McAfee) will scan any e-mails I receive?

If not, can you come round please :-D

Got loadsa beers :-D

DO NOT send these messages to all your contacts. This is exactly what the scammers want you to do. If it is a virus, which is unlikely, then it will infect all those you send it to.

On the other hand if it is just a hoax, all you end up doing is creating a pyramid of pointless messages which do no more than clog up the internet with rubbish.

Now you're scaring me Mr. Inspector. Which messages do you refer to? I don't think I have pointless messages, only those that go in the 'sin bin' which I delete regularly :-S

Not sure what you mean Mr Pen

Wend - what sort of email do you use
(stop panicking - in all likelihood you are just fine)

PS McAfee should be keeping you safe

Wend

Wend Report 23 Feb 2013 21:53

Hotmail and, yes, you're right Errol, I feel fine :-D

eRRolSheep Report 23 Feb 2013 22:14

ok you don't need to worry - the main danger is if you OPEN something that is dodgy which I don't think you would do - you sound pretty sensible to me.

Generally speaking, your McAfee should be protecting you if you open something if your settings are correct.

Hotmail is a web based email provider as opposed a local email client (as we call them) - all that means is that your emails are not "on your computer" but they remain on the hotmail site.

There is a lot of talk about how dangerous the web is from a virus point of view but generally speaking it is not the great armageddon it is made out to be - a lot of scare mongering out there

Didn't mean to panic you Wend. All my emails are scanned as they come in. Some are marked up as "dangerous" and i can't open them so they get deleted.
As Errol says most of the emails that are sent are fine it's just that some come from an infected computer and then you pass it on to your friends and that's how virus's are spread.

The smoking lady you sent me got through...... ;-)
Have sent you one to test you anti-virus ;-)

So, if I get the gist of what you're saying Errol, if Mr. McAfee and 'im indoors are protecting me, I'm in no danger. I think my personal settings are correct (well, almost), but I can't be sure about my computer stuff, but hey ho, silver lining, do be doo, be doo . . . . . pours a Sussex Harvey bitter down the cyber hole for ye laddy - just taste that - it sends 'im indoors into raptures :-D

Mr. M. - you have a lot to answer for - unsettling me like that :-P

Sorrry, times for beds . . . . .
