Ron........... Thats what I mean when I say I do not agree with all Doctrines of the Catholic Church .

Its a changing world the Catholic Church has to change with it !!

It wont be in my lifetime......but it will succumb.

I'm still a Catholic !! :-D

Cynthia Report 23 Feb 2013 22:05

It would certainly be interesting to see how the catholic church would deal with that question BK. However, I have a feeling that they would take a negative stance. What do others think?

No such rules Joy.......open forum. All thoughts welcome. :-D

Cynthia
Joeva was posting an awful lot of information and the facts from a website that may or may not be correct.
Again, I would rather do my own research and engage in genuine debate based upon my knowledge

Once again, can we return to the thread topic Cynthia - if you want to argue about individual postings then fine but I would rather debate the topic

OK .....Sorry Ron .....I did not read that correctly.

In my opinion......... I say why not !.........Yes again .. :-D

GRMarilyn my question was as follows
My question's would be this...
If the Church was to say it was ok for Priest's to marry would it be just a man to a lady or would same sex partners be included?
IMHO you can't have one rule for one without the other.

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 23 Feb 2013 21:52

Hayley i could not agree more :-D :-D

one rule for one and another rule for somebody else - i guess
so you can only add to a debate if you agree
mmm that doesnt ring right to me like

You know Cythia if I had post the same exact post as your last one with the very same words, some on here would claim I was being aggressive but seems it wasnt me it was you, ithe same people would argue that you are devoted ....hmmm

GRMarilyn

GRMarilyn Report 23 Feb 2013 21:40

Ron..
Yes of course nuns should also be included...

I don't go along with every Doctrine that the Catholic Church teaches .....Why should I ?

I would be lying if I said I did......

I was Baptised a Catholic will continue to be one until I pop my clogs !!

Nobody can ever take my faith away its embedded in me....Simple !!

It is well said that in order to avoid arguments never ever discuss either politics or religion.

Exactly, Rose, re your post of 21.08.

I've just quoted Sue as she put what I wanted to say succintly. I see no difference between that and using text from other sources to make your point.

good question Ron

well done ;-) ;-)

If they wish to devote one's self to God, that's all well & good. If they wish to get married maybe that's not such a bad thing as it may teach them what the real world is like, maybe bringing the church up to date with today's times.
My question's would be this...
If the Church was to say it was ok for Priest's to marry would it be just a man to a lady or would same sex partners be included?
IMHO you can't have one rule for one without the other.

I would not make anyone do anything but, if say, I belonged to a book club, no doubt I would be expected to read a book before I discussed it.

Nothing whatsoever is being forced down anyone's throat. You can either read what is posted or you can ignore it.

Joeva was not presenting an argument. Joeva was simply presenting the facts about the history of celibacy.

Having read the facts, people may then want to discuss what they think of them and progress on to discussing (not arguing) about how the catholic church would handle allowing their priests to marry given the history kindly offered by Joeva.

Lynda, do post if you look into the Quakers I find them interesting also .

Sometimes, it is much easier to quote a page which sets it out clearly ( Ie has been researched, considered, edited, re-written by the author) than to stretch my own brain in trying to put into words what I know or what I'm thinking ;-)

This isn't a debating society either, it's a thread on a genealogy board, I just pass on the bits I don't want to read.

Hayley, as I said my Nan was a catholic, and although none of her children followed the faith, I always found my Nan's "rituals" quite interesting.

I saw an advert in Private Eye this week, about the Quakers, now they look interesting, going to look into that next :-D

Cynthia - would you make a person read a whole book just so that it could be discussed?
Discussion should be based on informed opinion. Go to any great debating society and any one side will not make you read all their research. Au contraire, they will present an argument founded upon what THEY have read rather than forcing it down somebody's throat. That is the art and skill of good argument and debate!

Back on topic (AGAIN) how would the catholic church change? In other words surely such a fundamental change at its very core would mean that the catholic church ceased to exist in its current form.
