There has been a lot of good debate here, amongst the other stuff ;-), I've learnt quite a lot! Still not sure, from a personal point of view I don't really care, but it all seems like gross hypocrisy. If celibacy is a 'promise' rather than a strict requirement, in that there were and are married priests, I don't see why ALL priests should not have the option to be married if they choose. Is a married priest less effective, less well regarded, less godly?? The thing that sticks in my throat, however, is the notion that celibacy is 'better' than a loving, sexual union :-(.

That's exactly how I feel Sue !!!

I reported your last post and explained exactly why to GR.

You will only achieve a division within members which may be hard to close.

There is no need to continually preach at us, that's what your congregation have offered themselves for. We don't have that luxury but are subjected to it continually not just on a Sunday either.

The "The Emperor's New Clothes" suit you well John, wear them with pride ...You've earned them.

for heavens sake!

I think I might start a thread - who knows the best prayer.

As you have oft pointed out, John, this is a thread about whether catholic priests should be allowed to marry and not a depository for prayers and sermons.

EDIT

I see that the post that this referred to (timed 12.29) has now been reported so this may not make sense now.

I am somewhat reminded, for some curious reason, of the small child who puts their fingers in their ears and keeps saying laa laa laaaa

I think the whole issue of priests marrying could cause huge rifts within the catholic church. Traditionalists will find it very difficult to reconcile the notion with one of the fundamental bases for the denomination.

In some ways I don't really have an opinion either way but what I do worry about is the way in which it could divide a church.

not everybody would want you banned John
some are trying to help you
ie to stop you getting banned
but soon as somebody trys to tell you where you are going wrong on this site
you get you back up and witter on and on

you have to remember some people have been here a long long time
been there and seen it all before they have Really they have :-D :-D

some would much rather banter with you and having a laugh
than see the hurt and upset on the boards :-( :-(

Prayer for Unity

You, the one
From whom on different paths
All of us have come.

To whom on different paths
All of us are going.
Make strong in our hearts what unites us.

Build bridges across all that divides us;
United make us rejoice in our diversity.

At one in our witness to your peace,
A rainbow of your glory.

Lovely, thank you for posting. <3

Up to you if you choose to break the terms and get rr'd.....you can't say you weren't aware.

Edit. Have decided to keep repeating this post until people follow the thread rather than an individual poster. Could I suggest in all humility that last few posts have not followed thread and there is a danger of OP's lovely post about UNITY being lost

********.Please do not submit the same or similar material more than once.

...from the guidelines for message board use.

..I'd maybe rethink your decision John

"And never, never, have being patronising, being preachy, being attention seeking ever been mentioned "

I bet it's been said quietly a few times, though. I'm always kind in feedback on courses, no matter how awful it was.

*gives up*

The only person who doesn't realise he's the pub bore is the pub bore himself.

Looking at some of the posts on the thread I am reminded of the wise words in the Prayer for Unity of Brother David Steindl-Rast a Catholic Benedictine monk:-

Prayer for Unity

You, the one
From whom on different paths
All of us have come.

To whom on different paths
All of us are going.
Make strong in our hearts what unites us.

Build bridges across all that divides us;
United make us rejoice in our diversity.

At one in our witness to your peace,
A rainbow of your glory.

Amen
