Darn teeth seem to lots of trouble to us. Some get more than others. I had a broken top front tooth from a childhood accident. When my elder sister was getting married and I was chief bridesmaid I didn't want to spoil her photos so went to the dentist for the first
time ever ,I was 17. Had some fillings needed and the dentist insisted he would do those first in case I didn't come back. He then capped the tooth and it lasted years, had to have it replaced some 40 years later as the gum had receded from it. Eventually the tooth went rotten under the tooth and I had a bridge replacement which is still there some 10 years on.

The bottom teeth weren't suitable for a bridge as the bone loss on the next teeth
either hold the bridge for long plus one tooth was wonky in its position.

Feel for folks who are having teeth problems too :-(

For 3 years, my dentis & hygienist told me to floss my back teeth. for 3 years i told then the floss got caught.
Eventually the hygienist gave me some floss, to show her the problem.
The floss got caught, and it took her 5 minutes to release it.
She then suggested I did it 'like this'.
I pointed out that I couldn't lift both my arms over my right shoulder :-S

Then she saw (?) that a filling I had done 43 years ago crosed onto another tooth.
Went to the dentist (not mine, but same practice) a month later because of an abcess - this wasn't an emergency, it was a cancelled appointment. I pointed out the trailing filing - he wouldn't do anything about it!!! Apparently I have to pay more money to see 'my' (obviously crap) dentist.

Bloody glad doctors don't have the same attitude.

Hi Jules
Perhaps you may be able to have a bridge fitted.
I have 2 teeth to the side of the front missing (had to have them both out as the roots were twisted around each other and the teeth therefore did not come through as they should) anyway, I now have a bridge (permanently secured to the tooth either side), I cannot take it out, can clean it just like the rest of my teeth and have now had it in for over 15 years (fingers crossed - touch wood, etc, etc)

Blimey Jules that's really bad luck. At least I am in my 70's so am lucky I suppose to have kept most of em so far. Have had wisdom teeth out moons ago cos they didn't come through evenly. Their loss doesn't show though. It's the bottom front that I need in place or else look very haggy (is that a word ?)

I fell through the back door a couple of weeks ago and broke a side tooth...Went to dentist last week as it's still sore and gum and face are painful, she did an xray and said she will try a root canal and if that doesnt work it will have to come out!! im only 46 and may have to have a false tooth! :-S :-S

Thanks folks looks like a return trip to the dentist again. When the denture ,which has 3 teeth on it in place of the 4 taken out cos one was wonky,. is finally sitting in the space the back of it is rubbing the lower part of my mouth where you have the tongue flap & it can be moved around so isnt a good fit too. any accidental jab on the denture from the top is agony on one side.

i am really sorry I had it done now . realise why my mums dentures spent all their time in a cup on the kitchen window ledge ,she never did get good comfortable fitting ones. :-(

I have a loose tooth too and am worried it will come out so try not to bite on anything hard on that side. It's worrying when you don't feel your teeth are secure but I hope I can go a bit longer without anything drastic being done. I remember how my Mum suffered with her dentures, she had all her teeth out at the age of 21 due to gum disease (in 1936) so had to suffer a long time. Her Dad bought her false teeth for her 21st birthday!

I am definitely long in the tooth now with the receding gums but guess it comes to us all and is the luck of the draw how good our teeth and gums are, I blame the parents lol

Hope you can get your dentures made comfier soon, Shirley.

Go back to your dentist. He will only take a small amout off to ease the denture each time. If he takes too much off in 1 go it'll be too small and move about. He will not be aware that you are having difficulty until you tell him.

Make it plain you are not happy and you reqire the denture to be eased until it fits correctly. :-)

she had dental implants. porcelain ones, nothing to do with silicone.

Bobtanian Report 26 Feb 2013 23:41

so what has silicone to do with dentistry?

?

or am I thinking of the wrong kind of Implant?

Jean Report 26 Feb 2013 23:32

i have also lost a couple of back teeth due to bone loss. my younger sister had to loose all her top teeth due to the same problem. she spent her 16 grand redundancy money on implants. they are lovely, but i would not have spent that amount.

Gawd blimey, thanks for that....l'm really looking forward to my next visit to the dentist now...NOT!!!

Seriously though, that must be awful, l remember my mum when she had some of hers out 40 plus yrs ago, and the suffering she had to endure, but you would think nowadays that dentures would be comfy...hope you get it sorted soon!!:-)

Have had to come to term with the teeth are giving out on me . Well not the teeth they are fine ,gums receded though and teef have lost their youthful glow!!

I bit on an unripe pear last Sept and loosened one of the front teeth. somehow the next one to to it also loosened too. Last Oct on my 6 month check up the dentist said yep they are loose as you have age related bone loss. he took both out cleaned em up and then splinted em back in place/ Said he no idea how long it would last but not to bite on em. Well the original toof had got loose yet again and it was going to cost yet again to splint em in with no assurance of success plus the other teeth either side had bone loss too so on a time limit

I bit the bullet lol and decided to have two more teeth out between the eye teeth cos one was wonky anyway, Couldn't afford anything other than a denture MY OLD AGE !!. well had all done last Monday and the denture is crap. had to go back on friday cos got ulcers. he adjusted it but its still difficult to get it in place and then to get it out again. once in after lots of pushing down its uncomfortable and still rubs. cant bite on it even accidentily one side is so painful

I aint a happy girl and feeling my age and decidedly ORF
