♥†۩ Carol Paine ۩†♥ Report 28 Feb 2013 14:03

For us to say farewell to Molly Dog, she was 14 last November , has had many age related health problems, sleeping most of the time but perked up for a few hours each day, even chased cats out of HER garden.

For the last couple of days she has hardly moved off of her cushion on the sofa, lost her appetite & her zest for life. We had hoped that she would just go naturally in her sleep, but as she has not done so will leave us to cross Rainbow Bridge with a little help tomorrow morning & join other dearly loved pets in our wood.

So today I will be spending some time just watching her sleep, remembering her in her younger days, her funny ways & the pleasure & love she has given us.

Never easy Carol, but remembering the good times is healing and Molly has had a good life and well loved by those around her.

I am very sorry to hear that.
Some do not realise the pain involved in losing a loved pet, especially a dog.

Seems to me that you have successfully filled Molly Dog's life as full of love as is possible. She only needs that final act of love now.

Ah how sad. When we can see they have no quality of life any more its a sad decision to give them some help to pass peacefully. Much better though for them than lingering and maybe having pain .

I remember only too well .as I sure others will too the pain of knowing that's what needs to be done but dreading the time for the vet to help them.

I am sure you will always remember her with love and be grateful she was part of the family.

Bless you Molly Dog . <3

it's just gut wrenching isn't it - and for weeks after too - been there and done it many times - so hard to deal with - in some respects more treasured than some members of one's family - only have cats now, my present one is absolutely adorable, he's ten, a rescue cat, but the thought of being without him is unimagineable

Special thoughts of you as you spend your last hours with Molly Dog, I have been through the same over the years with my dog and cats and it is always such a wrench, but it's the price we pay for having the pleasure and company of our pets and is the last caring thing we can do for them.

Remember the good times and smile

Carol, my heart goes out to you, many do not realise how much a dog becomes one of your family and your life, and I know exactly what you are going through.

I had two beautiful boxer dogs, brothers, one of them Buster, died from a heart attack in 1996 aged 11 which was not bad considering that when he was a pup the vets at the veterinary college in Glasgow did not think he would live more than a year or two at the most.

His brother Braun took ill in 2001 and I was back and forward to my vets for about two months, he kept going down hill and the day came when I realised that he was suffering and that I was thinking more about my needs rather than his needs by trying to keep him alive. I called my vet and he came over to the house and as he lay with his head on my lap the vet gently helped him on his way.

That was probably one of, if not the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, but I know I made the right decision. Now 12 years on I can still see the look in his eyes which I am sure were saying thank you to me.

Molly, have a beautiful journey, you will live forever in the hearts of those who loved you <3

So sorry to hear that you've had to make that hard decision Carol , but only you know went it is the right time ,and there is never a best time.

I only had to do it once after staying up all night with my dog, had to contact dau to come home from Uni next day, cos she would have been more heart broken than me if she hadn't seen him again.

Son 18 ,dau 20 and I all in tears at vets , as Dizzi says you are saying goodbye to a family member.

Bye Molly <3

It was hard ringing my daughter so she could tell her children, Molly has been a big part of their visits/stays at Grannies.

Molly is older than my youngest Grandson, who has dyspraxia & will not be told until after he gets home from school tomorrow evening.

'There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear'.

~Rudyard Kipling~

So true, but we will always do it <3
