Sorry to hear this news Carol.
It's so hard to lose a well loved family pet & friend, but you're showing how much you really care when freeing Molly from her pain.

Still broken hearted and crying my eyes out after losing my beautiful girl

I know it's a hard decision and the pain you are feeling, our pets lives are so relatively short but with so much love and joy packed in

Love to you both <3

I'm so sorry for you, Carol. It's such a hard decision, but a necessary one. Sadly our pets never seem to go in their sleep, as we hope, but need us to make the decision for them. Our final caring act for them.
Love to you and Molly, Lynda XX

Crying my eyes out as I look at my old girl who is now about fifteen and a half and sound asleep at the moment .

Hard decision to make but you know your pet and if the time is right then you are doing the right thing possible.

Thinking of you,

Maureen

That old brown dog he smells so bad,
Say the people from the town.
That old brown dog is almost lame,
Someone should put him down.
It would be an act of kindness,
You know it's for the best. Amin
You bring a rope, bring a gun,
And it'll all be over
Before the dog can guess.
-
Could an old brown dog have become wise
Guessed they were all after him.
His hearing was failing, and his eyes
Were fast growing dim.
On the day they came to kill him
He sensed a rabbit on a log.
Did anybody see a rabbit
Chased across the meadows
By an old brown dog.
-
That old brown dog, tail wagging,
As he laid himself down.
It did not seam to matter,
That the rabbit had long gone to ground.
And there in the summer heat,
His old heart ceased to beat. Amin
And high above the meadow
The skylarks singing
As the spark went out.

So sad for you Carol. It's always a hard, hard decision to take but take consolation from the fact that you are still doing the very best you can for Molly Dog. You will always have beautiful memories.

'There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear'.

It was hard ringing my daughter so she could tell her children, Molly has been a big part of their visits/stays at Grannies.

Molly is older than my youngest Grandson, who has dyspraxia & will not be told until after he gets home from school tomorrow evening.

So sorry to hear that you've had to make that hard decision Carol , but only you know went it is the right time ,and there is never a best time.

I only had to do it once after staying up all night with my dog, had to contact dau to come home from Uni next day, cos she would have been more heart broken than me if she hadn't seen him again.

Son 18 ,dau 20 and I all in tears at vets , as Dizzi says you are saying goodbye to a family member.

Bye Molly <3

OneFootInTheGrave Report 28 Feb 2013 15:01

Carol, my heart goes out to you, many do not realise how much a dog becomes one of your family and your life, and I know exactly what you are going through.

I had two beautiful boxer dogs, brothers, one of them Buster, died from a heart attack in 1996 aged 11 which was not bad considering that when he was a pup the vets at the veterinary college in Glasgow did not think he would live more than a year or two at the most.

His brother Braun took ill in 2001 and I was back and forward to my vets for about two months, he kept going down hill and the day came when I realised that he was suffering and that I was thinking more about my needs rather than his needs by trying to keep him alive. I called my vet and he came over to the house and as he lay with his head on my lap the vet gently helped him on his way.

That was probably one of, if not the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, but I know I made the right decision. Now 12 years on I can still see the look in his eyes which I am sure were saying thank you to me.

Molly, have a beautiful journey, you will live forever in the hearts of those who loved you <3
