How nice, Ann! I am still in touch with my first love (from 50 odd years ago!) and when I look at him I cannot for the life of me remember what I saw in him all those years ago! :-D :-D :-D

I have been searching google for that song we used to sing about eyes. I think the line was "mainly the eyes" and described getting older and everything changing and crumbling except the eyes.

My father in law once told me quite firmly that his daughter was never to lose the sparkle in her eyes. That was over 33 years ago when I got down on one knee, looked up and asked his permission :-) ;-)

Mine died about eighteen years ago.

We were still great friends, sort of surrogate siblings. I had seen him through alcoholism, depression, a crazy woman he had shipped in from the psychiatric hospital on his last visit.

In the last couple of years I had cuddled him through the times when she was hurting him, fed him, sorted out people who were after payment for things and in the end I went to see him in his coffin.

He finally sccumbed to bronchial pneumonia, a disease of neglect. His neighbour had called to see him the previous night and tried to persuade him to go to hospital. We later decided he should have sent for me and I would have given him such a hiding he would have been glad to go to hospital!

Anyway he was found on the floor in the bathroom. He died pulling his pants up!

The crematorum was packed. For a man who thought he had no friends there wee sure a lot of people who tolerated him.

At the wake,a mighty all day wake, I had to comfot the woman I had shared him with for many years. He thought we didn't know but we both did and lived around it.I certainly didn't keep myself only unto him and she married twice in the time they were together!

Ann, I see mine from time to time....sometimes it's months and other times years tho he doesn't live far from me now. I can still see what I used to see in him even tho I know it wouldn't have worked lol

Have stayed in touch with mine for nearly 45 years. We´ve seen each other´s children & grandchildren growing up.
We both know that marriage between us would never have worked, but still love each other to bits.
