I have noticed today that I can see details of Living Relatives in other trees that I have been given view access to. I am sure that most will have set their account up to Hide Living Relatives, so I believe there could be a bug with the GenesR site at the moment. Therefore, I am going to remove view access to my tree until this bug is fixed, or until Tech Support tell me what is wrong. You may want to take similar precations. |

Thank you for alerting us - presumably you have checked with the tree owners and have emailed Support? |

Maybe they have not hidden them? They may not even know that even though they are hidden in their tree, they can still be found by searching the trees. |

Or they have picked up the information from elsewhere, not from your tree but from other sources or trees possibly even on other sites, where the Hidden for living has not been implemented, All BMD records are in the public domain if you look hard enough! |

Thanks for the replies.... I've checked several trees that I have view access to, one or two show Hidden for Living People, but most show full details, including a couple of trees where I know for sure that they have set their account up to Hide Living Relatives. |

I thought you could display them as long as you had their permission..........maybe I'm wrong. :-S I don't display any on my own tree. |

Yes Annx, you can. It's just that many of us don't want our close relative's details handed on a plate to complete strangers. |

Perhaps they do not know that you have to opt to hide living relations ........... unlike ancestry where any tree entry showing a birth date within the last 120 years but no death date is replaced by "Private" |

I have access to several hundred trees on this site and I estimate less than 5% are set to hide living relatives. In fact you can count them on the fingers of both hands so 2% is probably nearer the mark |

I think at least 75% of the trees I have access to have "living" relatives hidden. |

I have found a temporary quick fix which hides living relations in your tree. |

(1) Whatever the tree is set to the LR will show up in the index eg Search Member Trees. |

I remember this being queried on GR's page on facebook and GR's response was that, even if hide living relations is saved, names of living people can be found, such as one's own name. In my opinion, it is better not to add names of any living people. |

In the case that a tree is shared with LR not disabled then any and all data entered by the tree owner will be accessible to anybody the tree is shared with. This is not a bug and has always been the case. |

Some of us, me included, are verging on Paranoia when it comes to exact details of our own and other living relatives personal details – the actual date of birth & date of marriage, if someone enters them on their tree, are open to all to see unless the Hide Living Relative function works. |

I can assure you that I am not mistaken, I have tested and confirmed that this bug exists. ;-) |

I have an unusual name. So ID theft one may suppose is a low level pf concern - ID theft scams prefer ordinary names. |

I agree Rollo. It is easy peasy to trace living rellies from deceased rellies anyway. What about the poor souls who are hoping to be traced by estranged family members who would want their (own) details to show. |
