You've already moved the Google chrome icon.

I right clicked on the Google Chrome tile/icon on the start up page and chose the option to 'pin' it to the taskbar, so I can get at it easily when using the good old fashioned desktop.

As I was so used to "possessing" most parts of microsoft office on my old XP pc and my previous laptop, I was dismayed to find that my "new" tosh satellite C660 lappie, only has starter versions,

so to access say excel, word etc, it has to go off to cyberland to make it run........

I got a nice computer geek to migrate my old office 2007 onto my new laptop, and again, whilst Microsoft office is a tile on the start up page, I've also pinned excel and word to the task bar for easy access.

I wish i understood computers better though! :-(

Thanks Errol, will have to remember it is called the Charm Bar. It has got things such as Devices, search, settings, share and start on it. Sometimes I get a whole load of tiny icons with all sorts of things on them.

It is the pop up clock I find such a pain as I can't carry on until I have clicked on it to get it to go away.

By the way, where did you get your hat ? Haven't I seen one like it somewhere before ?

Thanks for all your help. M

I think to remove the pop up clock you have to alter what is called the registry - something you don't really want to be fiddling with.
However, you can turn off swipes totally if you really want to.

I think I will persevere for a bit and see how I get on. I have only had the machine a week so I ought to give it a chance before I start fiddling !!!!!!!!

Thanks Errol. M :-)

Did it come from somewhere in Wales by any chance. Thanks for the offer but two are quite enough. M ;-) :-)

I've been thinking - and I feel that Rollo is unduly optimistic whem he says that security updates for XP will continue ad infinitum - I don't really think Microsoft is so unselfish as to miss the opportunity of selling new packages to all these large corporations and government departments! I don't lthink I'd risk it.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 18 Mar 2013 21:54

Elizabeth there will be some minimal support but security updates will certainly fizzle out

So if Windows Vista is not going to be available (when) what do I have to do now. Have seen nothing about any of this but then I am completely clueless when it comes to IT.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 18 Mar 2013 22:06

It will still be "available" it just won't have the plethora of updates

Thanks for that ErrolSheep. Was getting a bit worried for a moment. Still not used to everything on this computer and never will be probably!

Windows XP will not be removing support & will remain as it is today.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 18 Mar 2013 23:36

XP support ends in just over a year's time which means in theory that security updates will no longer be issued. However, It will still work and the fact that security updates diminish is not a major problem
