Home Serve is handy policy - we have drains/plumbing cover.
Not all drains are covered by your water company - only those inside your boundaries.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 3 Mar 2013 14:17

I went out the front garden yesterday afternoon and noticed the drain cover have caved in. Thought it was just the big stone I had to put on it to stop it blowing away in the winds we have had these last months.

URGG it wasnt the drain cover it was corroded in with gunk, I went back into the kitchen and turned on the hot tap to see how it was flowing away. (our kitchen is in the front of the house 1960,s build) itwasnt, was building up from the grid and then slowly seeping away. Had to get a big stick to poke out the grids and remove some of the gunk . Its flowing again but really needs a big clean as there's greasy residue on the drain concrete. strange really cos I dont use fat for any cooking.

Must admit though its yonks since I checked and cleaned out the drain .

Another nasty job that needs looking at ASAP

Also the chappie who clears the drains whether from DYNOROD or qualified plumber is just that a professional

I bet they and the water companies could tell some real horror stories of people who have made matters far worse because they had their own rods and did it themselves.

Dad worked for the Metropolitan Water Board (now Thames Water) and he was always amazed at what people would do to unblock and invariably break their pipes and drains.....

Mayfield

Mayfield Report 3 Mar 2013 12:11

Mmm now let me think MR_MAGOO, pumping drain rods down a blocked manhole trying to avoid the splashes coming back on your face, cleaning the rods afterwards and putting everything in the wash including yourself, or 200quid to watch someone else doing it from the comfort of your lounge window and a guarantee he wil come back and sort it if it blocks again in a day or so.

Been there done it and soiled the tee shirt!

No contest it's a bargin!

Mayfield ;-)
