Liz that is a good description of me - an apple belly since I am so less mobile.

Annoying thing is I know the exercise that works for that but I can no longer do it as I cannot even get down on floor!

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 7 Mar 2013 09:32

Oh Chris, let me in on the secret, please. Mind you, if it means getting down on the floor I would struggle to get up, my knees are so painful nowadays and with my dodgy hip too, would have to be alone so I could do the contortions necessary to stand up againwithout o.h. laughing his socks off lol

I have lost a bit of weight so the rest of me is getting slimmer but the belly stays the same, it's the love handles that are going hence having to put elastic in the backs of my skirts and replacing the old elastic in other things. My pj bottoms fell down the other morning, more elastic had to be inserted.

For those who have a problem midriff and are in possession of a flight of stairs!

Lie down on landing at top of stairs - shuffle bottom to stair edge, making sure your spine is supported. Place hands on stair rail/wall and keeping legs close together?? lower legs down stairs (you will feel pull on tummy) then raise knees bent to chest followed by straight in air, then knees bend down to chest and repeat.

I used to do anywhere from 3 times to more. Anytime I thought of it - could go weeks and then do it a couple of times a day.

Let me know how you go on.

OMG if you could see me now - apparently I have lost 3" in height , put on weight, not very mobile at all. I think I look as if someone has put their hands on my head and pushed down!!!

As The Circuses seem to be closing down, I gather there are quite a Few "Big Tops" Available. :-D :-D As for exercise,Try Swimming if Possible, its very good, exercises lots of muscles whilst having the support of the water. :-D

Midriff worries? try a body stocking (they get gradually stronger and stronger until they get called a corset). They don't lose you any weight but they do tidy up what my generation used to call a spare tyre but now is apparently a muffin top

I thought about that Elizabeth or maybe some of those tough pants but find them difficult to put on with my hands. I think I have the answer - maternity pants. How desperate it that.

My mother always wore a corset. She thought it dreadful for big women to wobble. She should see me now.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 8 Mar 2013 06:09

Oh Vera, I used to see my mother struggle into corsets or a bra and corset in one and swore I would never put myself through that, and I haven't! I used to have to get my elderly neighbour her corsets too and again told myself I would never wear them. The most I wore when young were those elasticated roll ones with suspenders but then tights came along and that was it. I think I have always had a bit of a tummy even when I was a skinny teenager, I used to stand badly so had a sway back too.

I don't like those tops with elasticated bottoms Ann, but have bought them and taken the elastic out so they are loose. I actually have a really nice sun top with straps wide enough to cover my bra straps and once I took the elastic out the bottom, it hangs really nicely over shorts or a skirt. It's from Next Maternity section and it was in the sale a year or so back for peanuts. Have another nice top with pleating at the front and that's a Maternity top too lol Maybe I should get maternity trousers so the panel holds my belly in a bit lol

Chris, I am disappointed I can't try that exercise, the landing at the top of o.h.'s stairs is only about a metre deep so no room to lie down. I did buy a hula hoop a while back (we were staying at Hemsby at the time) maybe I should practice with that and see if I can whittle the inches away.

I get so annoyed at clothing lengths. I see a dress or skirt that I like, only to find it ends 3or4 inches above my knee.
Trousers are usually the opposite....3or4 inches of material trailing behind me.
I´m 5ft 5 & a size 14, so hardly unusual.

Gee Report 8 Mar 2013 09:33

Tops.....why are they so short these days!

If you have a big bangers, a short top becomes even shorter when you have it on :-| A bigger size is just bigger in width, not length

Longer tops are much more flattering, sitting just above the hip makes you look much slimmer

............and who, above the age of 25 wants to flash off their belly!

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 8 Mar 2013 09:58

Talking of tops....

I like 'classic' styles with a collar and buttoned cuffs (or short sleeves). Every one of them in the 'affordable ranges' are fitted. Yes they look good when you are standing, put once you sit, they are stretched over the spare tyre and the buttons pop open/off. :-|

Sains jeans are my staples for knocking around in, and it used to be that the Regular length didn't need altering. The last pair need to be turned up by about 10cm. Now, I know we shrink as we get older, but not that much in one year!

Gee

Gee Report 8 Mar 2013 10:03

Know what you mean Det.......and the big gap accross your chest, flashing your bra off

Not a good look :-|

What's going on here? I typed my message, hit Submit, and I was taken to some Yahoo page! :-P

2nd attempt (which I will copy, just in case).

We went to the supermarket tonight (it closes at 9pm)

We saw a young woman (about 19ish) wearing.........

A pair of stretch pants, sort of Uncle Sam style..... one leg had stars, the other leg had stripes. The hip area was "lumpy"/

Her top looked like a lacy bra.

Shoes? BIG, with sparkles.

Bare midriff, with enough extra to make 6 muffins.

:-)

I don't think she owns a full length mirror!

OH chortled all the way home :-D

Gee

Gee Report 8 Mar 2013 11:15

I'm affraid the 'bum/pants' display is worn in our house......not by me!

When I was a kid in the 70s, the rage was very long, very flared trousers and the same for 'soul' skirts

I used to trip over on a regualr basis, with said garments getting cought in my platforms!

Then the 80s brought those awful skin tight, Olivia Newton-John pants....oh dear, yes I did wear them :-0

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 8 Mar 2013 17:10

Not a kid but I wore the flared trousers and platforms - loved them.

Did not wear skin tight Olivia pants - lucky you!!

LadyScozz Report 9 Mar 2013 00:01

OK, fess up.........

Who had a pair of velvet flairs?? (flairs/ flares?)

:-D

I had black ones lolol

I didn't have the "Grease" pants, my legs were too skinny!

I've still got skinny legs.......... they're in there somewhere, under the padding :-D

Gins, I find the opposite, last year I liked several of Sainsbury's tops but the size I needed was lots longer than the smaller sizes as were the sleeves. Another woman was complaining of the same thing. There are no changing rooms in our Sainsburys so have to buy an armful of stuff, bring it home to try on and then take back what doesn't fit.

Ah but Liz, you are nice and 'petite'.......I am a long 5'7

I prefer to try on at home, I hate changing rooms :-(
