how do I get round this new system I have had contacts from people asking about their relatives in my tree how do I find them the old system was much better you just typed in a name and it would come up in the position in your tree. I don't always know where to look on this new system I need a kind person to talk me through this :-(

There is Search Tree button in the top right hand corner of the tree page and you can press this to search your own tree. If you select the person you want it will take you to them in the tree.

If you want to search another person's treee you have been given access to, go the the link at the top of the page under your page and you can select the tree you want to view.

Good Luck K

What I miss is the difficulty in seeing more than a tiny fraction of one family. In the old one you typed in a name and got three generations at once - the names of the parents, the names of the children and as many brothers and sisters as would fit in horizontally, and it was very easy to move in all directions. . Now the navigation involves so many clicks and arrows that it can take ages to check a relationship.

If I get a query on Genes I try and check on my more basic tree here just to see what I have - but I usually have to go to my A-y tree to check!

It sounds like you are only using the Immediate Family View.

The new tree is far superior to the old for navigating once you learn all the facilities it has.

The main problem seems to be with big trees the time to convert from Immediate to Full view is uncomfortably long.

KenSE - I do switch to Full View - but I still find the navigating very sticky - and it doesn't show more than a very narrow range of relatives at a time
