Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 7 Mar 2013 08:55

My hubby kept getting letters from ,wait for it ! Barclays saying he had promised a repayment programme on the money he owed and had defaulted yet again. The first time he went into panic mode cos he has always had a healthy balance on his account and he worried if someone had hacked it..

This was before the chip and pin and hole in the wall transactions. He went to the bank to be told sorry its someone with the same name .forget about I!.

It happened every so often and each time he was told the same. One time the letter stated he had said he was going to sell goods to settle but still nothing. I got really fed up with him worrying about it every time and at last I was home one time when the latest letter arrived so I went with him to the bank and demanded to see the manager ,wouldn't get fobbed off. "With you need an appointment "either and threatened to stand outside the bank and broadcast what they were doing. That did it we were ushered into the manager pronto. I was very firm but annoyed as I pointed out that if the person involved knew hie personal details were being divulged to a third party the bank would be in the BIG DooDoos .

He was flustered and agreed they would have big problems. I told him that it could be stopped by flagging up hubbies account with warning warning check this is the right account before you send letters or take any actions. He agreed and the letters did stop.

Thing is my hubby is a worrier and he didn't want an account in the first place but had to have one cos his wages went over from cash to banking.

He got an apology but he didn't get any compensation for all the hassle

Not a UK bank, but one in Oz.

Many years ago...

Mum and I had the same name (this caused all sorts of problems)

I was in the bank, halfway through the transaction the teller said "ah yes, we have to talk to you about something". She left, came back and put a cheque in front of me... and said "Why did you sign this cheque in a different manner?"

I didn't care for her attitude, so decided not to help much.

I looked her straight in the eye and said "I didn't".

"But it's not your usual signature"

"I can see that ~ it's not my account"

She went very red in the face. I didn't tell her it was my mother's cheque.

:-P

That bank, especially that particular branch, made so many mistakes! I gave up, opened an account at another bank.

If you closed it down, it's their fault and they should give you the money - plus interest!!

I had the opposite. I left Nat West. Closed my account etc. then kept getting letters saying I owed 79p! :-| :-|

I refused to phone them or write to them - would have cost me more than 79p, and I couldn't be bothered to take the 79p into the branch - that would have cost (in my time) more than 79p.

Their fault - tough.
The letters stopped after 5 years
:-D

I would be on the phone to Barclays on freephone 0800 282 390 and demand to speak to a complaints manager.

If you want to change ISA provider, the new provider will organise it I think so choose one that is internet and you won't have to visit the branch. I think that is how it works.

DazedConfused Report 6 Mar 2013 15:01

Have recently found out that although I thought I had closed all my old ISA accounts down there is one with a balance of £1.20 still open.

So I called Barclays, went through all the security details etc., only to be told I could only close this down if I visited a branch.

Explained I was housebound and all I got was 'Sorry this can only be done in branch'. They were quick enough to open my accounts via the phone and take my money.

I know its only £1.20, but I have 2 others which mature next month that I opened last year (for me and OH) and I am now wondering how on earth I am to sort those out...... Grrrrr
