I can see where you are coming from Muffy and no, it isn't just you. I know I am a lot older but to me they are using their child to reflect how young they, the mother are. Maybe not distasteful as some of the children are pretty and maybe not overdressed for their age. I find it more sad that the mothers don't have the courage to act their age and leave their teenage years behind.

The other views re sexualising children by dressing them inappropriately is a different matter. Why do they want their 'babies' of 4 or 5 to look like teenagers? Some of these Mothers would be better off playing with dolls because that is how they are treating their children.

I think 10/11 year olds wanting to dress as teenagers has been around a long time, it is part of growing up. The difference is, in my day, and probably most of yours too, our parents stopped it, and we more or less did as we were told. OK Makeup was put on secretly and scrubbed off. But these days they are actually encouraged by some mothers to wear makeup. OK for occasional parties but not shopping in the high street. No wonder young men have trouble knowing how old girls are. (and I am not condoning anything here before someone jumps on me, it is no excuse for underage relationships, but it is one explanation.)

They are training their girls to sacrifice their lives to advertisers just as they have done.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 7 Mar 2013 09:32

It's not so much that the girls are experimenting...we all did that when we were that age..it's their mothers having identical *do's* and displaying their *mini-me's* for the whole world to see.

Just find it a bit sick making.....I think Hayley and Susan have it right when they say they're trying to be their *bestie*...........blah.

I loathe the whole pageant thing too and struggle to understand the mentality of them. Wouldn't be for me at all..

I have a friend who is a hairdresser. While picking up her 10 y.o. granddaughter from school one of the mums asked her if she would come to a "pamper party" for her daughter and her friends (also 10 y.o.) My friend asked what she wanted her to do at the party and she was asked if she would put blonde highlights in the girls' hair. She said no they aren't old enough to have such chemicals in their hair. So the mum got someone else to do it :-(

I just hate to see some of the little kids over here ............ 4 or 5 years old, walking around the mall with their parents, and in very sexualised clothing!

and have you seen some of those children's Beauty Pageants? :-0

saying that I think I was either 13 or 14 when I first started plucking my eyebrows I was deffo doing the Gary Numan eyemake up by 14 and would n't leave the house without it :-D

I've seen 12 year olds with acrylic nails - how daft is that? Not only do they ruin their natural nails they must get in the way in PE at school.

I hate to see mini Bet Lynches. Leopard print is not a good look on a child. It looks pretty "cheap" on grown women but on a child it's just so inappropriate.

When my friends and I were 13 we used to sneakily buy make up and put it on on the bus on the way out and scrub it off with tissues before our parents saw it. That was part of the fun.

I bet she is here oldest or only child ? I agree with you totally and the Susan NZ trying to be her bestie and eager for her to grow up far to quickly :-D

Hi Muffy,

I too agree. FB aside, the clothes that are targeted at littlies with the most crass 'sayings' on them... Beggars belief and shows how stupid the parents are to dress their children in such.

15 is NOT an adult - regardless of what their parents might think... Those Mum's are trying to hang on to their youth or be 'besties' with their girls.....:-D

Muffy

I totally agree with you.

children, especially little girls, are not being allowed to be children these days.

The other thing that bothers me is that such photos are being posted on FB ............... and probably NOT on the most private setting

ideal for those who like looking at little girls!

who knows how far they are being re-posted

I'm with you on this one Muffy.
Yes, I'm probably old fashioned, but to see a little girl going about dressed up as an adult just doesn't look right to me. I won't forget the little girl I saw on holiday a few years ago, she was somewhere around the age of 8 and wearing a thong at the hotel pool. That drew a lot of attention which I found distasteful, yet the mother didn't seem to notice, or perhaps she thought it was great!

It is said that our biggest role model in life is our same sex parent.

Little girls are little girls, not fashion accessories or mini-me's!!! I don't think Mrs Beckham thinks that though.

This will make your hair curl.......

Muffy, I totally agree.

I have never had a Facebook account, or any other type of social media.

One of my nephews and his wife, from the day their son was born, took photos of him on a weekly basis. My great nephew is now 3. Some of the pics showed my nephew with his son in the bath together.

My nephew's wife is an avid facebook user: I wonder how many of those phots were placed on there!

We received them via email and deleted them once we'd seen them

Thank you Mersey. Totally agree.

There's a difference between encouraging them to understand the world as an adult...and actively shoving them into it unarmed in full make up !!!!!

Mersey Report 6 Mar 2013 23:13

Although I dont have facebook anymore Muffy I for one totally agree with you.

I for one get scared as to how fast children grow up these days, children should be children and treated as such for as long as they can, this does not imply not teaching them right from wrong or gradually let them follow the path into adulthood as we were.... :-| :-|

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 6 Mar 2013 23:04

Got lots of my daughter's friends' mothers on my FB page.......becoming increasingly concerned by how they seem happy to portray their barely 13 yr old daughters as mini adults in their status's.

Full make up...big hair do..pout. Mother AND daughter

Impression being given....oooooo doesn't she look young to have such a grown up girl...or ...ooooooo isn't she sooooo grown up now and like her mum.

Makes me want to scream.

IF they have the propensity to dress like that..FINE ...but don't you think displaying a little girl as an adult is kind of wrong?

Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I can't help wondering whose benefit is it for.....
