my old bouvior des falnders qualified for crufts before i got him

I just love watching all the dogs on there Joy.

This year they are doing a *Scruffs* final for cross breeds too which will be great.

My favourite bit is the agility..I'm teaching Harper to weave through the poles......keep your eyes peeled we may be there one year..if I can stop her crashing through them lol

I used to love watching Crufts, usually BBC Sundays. I think after all the backlash from the kennel clubs re: breeding etc. it was taken off tv for a while. Now it's back on Channel 4

Still prefer One Man and His Dog :-D

Loved loved loved Jilly the petit griffon so glad she won she was adorable...I hope she now enjoys her retirement. Was really saddened by the gsd,s sloping back though...cannot be healthy for the poor dog.

The BBC decided back in 2008 that Crufts’ judging rules, as laid down by organisers The Kennel Club, promote physical distortions that are unacceptably cruel to the dogs involved.

According to the BBC at the time, the requirements for 14 breeds were so unacceptable they shouldn’t be in the competition at all. As the parties were unable to agree terms, the BBC withdrew its support after 42 years of covering the event.

Apparently, it was a documentary that started the controversy, Pedigree Dogs Exposed. It featured shocking footage, such as film of a King Charles Spaniel which was in intense pain because its brain was too big for its skull.

As well as the BBC, the RSPCA then withdrew its support from Crufts; dog food makers Pedigree withdrew their sponsorship. The Kennel Club initially defended their practices but, but due to the strong public response did introduce new welfare rules.

The show has been broadcast on More 4 since 2010 but has a far lower profile.

There is a lot wrong with the kennel club no doubt about that. However its only by seeing the show that you can see where some breeds are in need of a rethink. I enjoyed the coverage more on ch4 this year tbh less stuffy and formal but more informative.

The German Shepherd breed still seems to be suffering.
The 'Best of Breed' had a back that was nearly 45 degrees.

Loved the all round winner though :-D
