I remember him doing one on the radio about a wild daffodil.

There was a group called the Kay Sisters around at the same time as the Beverleys were so popular too wasn't there?

Had a good night out at the jazz....
They played Midnight in Moscow in the 2nd half and finished with "So Do I" which the clarinettist and trumpeter sang and it went down a bomb.
Both of those were hits for Kenny and was a good tribute to him.
The night out also gave me a boost as not been for a while .

Shirley, we had that Cherry Blossom record, an old 78 when we had a wind up gramaphone given us. I think my brother has it now unless he's chucked it or sold it.

Acker Bilk looked well when he spoke about Kenny on tv last evening.

North Shields Round Table organised a Jazz Band Ball in Tynemouth in the late 1960's in aid of the local Children's Society with Kenny Ball the main attraction.
He was a wonderful man who pulled out all the stops to make sure we raised a lot of money.

Your mention of Chris Barber reminded me of when many years ago, I went with a friend to see them at Poplar Town Hall/ Civic Center. We waited outside the stage door and actually got a lift home with the drummer and other members of the band.!

Very reckless I know now, but we did stop for chips on our way home!

Our elder sister was in a girl group rather like the British Andews sisters forget their names but was a 3 girl troup & was twins and the elder one was Babs ???
Anyway she was semi professional and appeared on Carol levis ? spelling .
and did one night gigs in clubs in the West End of London. They had a 3 night gig at the Cafe Du Paris and Kenny was there too . cant remember whether he was on stage or in the audience but we have a picture of the girls with him.

We also have pictures of her at Radio Luxembourg with Dicky Attenborough.

I am going out to my jazz night tonight...the first time in 6 weeks.
I have played on the same bill as him in the 50's and he was a very nice man.
I expect the band tonight will play a tribute to him.

I knew he had pneumonia as his son was with his band on their recent tour of the Three Bs.he didnt play trumpet as another trumpeter took Kenny's place,but his son sang.
They brought Acker Bilk on in a wheelchair,but he did play well.
Chris Barber was OK and in good form.

Eddie Calvert had that hit in summer of 1955 along with Kay Starr who had Wheel of Fortune - i was 19 that summer and on my first hotel holiday in Newquay Cornwall - wonderful memories
