My friend's daughter underwent a double mastectomy on Friday last at Morriston Hospital in Swansea - she's only in her thirties, never been a smoker or drinker, healthy diet, although gluten and dairy product free

She's had no breakfast supplied by the hosptal since admission - they have no dairy or gluten free meals - she was offered an omelette and thought "well that won't hurt me - one egg - however, on starting to eat it she realised it was a cheese omelette

the woman in the adjoining bed has Alzheimers - very sad indeed - but this morning my friend was awoken by this woman having climbed on to her bed just about to urinate on her - fortunately she called for help ad nurses removed the woman

what a scenario - I'm sure if my friend needed halal food or kosher, they would have had it

There,s no excuse for that, most Hospitals have "Diet Chefs" or at least they used to have.Should complain to the Hospital Administrator.**M**.

The one place that you thought could have catered for gluten and dairy free meals.

Hope the rest of her treatment is at a better standard

AnnC....that is terrible and as Merlin says "no excuse". Does this mean she's had no food since admission??

Poor girl as if the operation alone is'nt enough for her to deal with, she should be treated properly!!
And yes l agree all other diets would be catered for or the hospital would be in trouble!!

well the surgical side of things appear to have gone very well thank goodness

That is a sad reflection on what is happening to the NHS these days, you said she had to call for help, do they no longer have nursing stations actually on the wards ?

I am nearly 70 and I actually dread the thought of having to go into hospital :-(

OFTG, modern wards are not "old style" like barrack blocks, They do have nurses stations but because of privacy and dignity issues patients are not all visible from the nurses station

Meybe if they did as they are supposed to i/e segregate the wards (Male /Female) they could go back to the system where the nursing station was at the centre of the wards and they could observe the patients easier.**M**

Don't really see the point of having a nursing station if nurses cannot see the patients :-S

Merlin, That would add to costs and not addressing the problem of privacy and dignity.

The nurses station is not their just in order that the nurses can see patients, It is a work station for other duties to be carried out, I don't think people realise that nurses today are not the same as portrayed in films and as we remember from yours ago, modern nurses have far more responsibility and a very high work load compared to that of days gone by

I too dread going into hospital - things are going from bad to worse - in the last two weeks I've had multiple tests and X-rays - rang GP today to see if results are in - yes they are - concerns re X-ray results and concerns re one of the bloods - GP will ring me on Wednesday afternoon to discuss!!! Obviously not life-threatening, but what am I to think until then?

son still waiting for an URGENT MIR scan from last year - he required an op the week before last which could not be carried out with looking at an MRI scan first - no one knows why the scan has taken so long - GP has promised that if nothing was confirmed by today regarding the scan he would deal with it - yes - I bet he will

This would have been the 12th op for my son on the same thing and still they can't get it right

that's kind of you - she has two little boys and has been so upbeat about all this - she's only little, about a size 6 or 8 - she has a lovely husband and family and they are all rooting for her - makes you wonder where on earth these cancers come from

they now say she may be going home today which I think is good cos the longer anyone is in hospital the more at risk they seem to be from other infections

well I just got myself very nicely worked up so done my usual thing - fired a letter off to the local newspaper - South Wales Echo and shall also send it to a national newspaper too

my son has been waiting since last December for an urgent MRI scan - he required an operation last week but this could not be carried out without first seeing the MRI scan - this would have been the 12th identical operation for the same problem - th GP has indicated that if nothing is done by today he will organise the MRI scan - do I believe that? definitely not

during the past two weeks I have undergone various tests and X-rays - rang GP today to ask about results - apparently there are concerns regarding one of the blood tests and the x-rays - a GP will give me a call next Wednesday to discuss - so what am I to think in the meantime, obviously not life-threatening but worrying just the same

Now these events are just in my very small family and circle of friends - makes one wonder what the full pcture looks like

with regard to my son, I have sent letters far and wide, two to the hospital manager, two to the Welsh Assembly, one to the Minister of Health and for good measure, a copy to David Cameron. And have I received even an acknowledgement to any of these letters? No, of course I haven't

A relative of mine had the same thing at Withy Bush re the gluten and dairy free.
Her husband took food in for her.
