May

A totally unnecessary, and very unpleasant remark to make

It is also considered very rude to shout ..........

......... in case you are not aware, all caps equates with shouting in the internet world.

All of us who live overseas have, or had, our own reasons for leaving .................... and all of us have our own reasons for staying overseas.

It is not up to you, or to anyone, to make any nasty comment about those decisions.

I did see that remark Sylvia, nasty wasn't it. But my feeling is that May is maybe aWUM returned from some time ago.

Tenerife Sun Report 11 Apr 2013 22:19

I didn't see Mays remark. I moved from England to Tenerife and can not see me returning to the UK in the near future. The main reason being the weather! I do not not like being cold or wet. I have had an operation here and one in England and the treatment I received here was easily as good as I received in England. We do not have any MRSA here. Paula said that after three weeks holiday she wants to get back to her own home and things and I feel the same when I go away. Moving isn't a holiday and your home and all your things are wherever you chose to live. I love to be able to go out for a walk at anytime of the year without a coat. To eat outside most days, to have my washing dried in an hour or so and best of all to be in good health free from coughs and colds etc. If England had Tenerife weather I would maybe go back. Basically where you live is up to the individual, freedom of choice.

That remark was very nasty ..........

......... but, for the record, I did not report it.

I also do not ever see myself returning to the UK ....................

after all, we have lived here for 45 years, in this same little house for 41 years.

We have spent almost 2/3rds of our lives here, vs only 1/3 in England

We have more friends, of diverse ages, here than we now do in England ............. and all the ones in England are at least our age, and like us, beginning to fall apart!

It would be as difficult for us to move to England, find a suitable area to live, and then make friends, as it would for someone of the same age to move from England to Spain, Majorca, or wherever.

Plus our daughter, husband and grandchild would still be in this country.

We left the UK for a reason (job opportunities), stayed here for a reason (very good jobs, salaries and benefits), and our roots are now deep in this country.

no reason, though, to get slagged for that!

Of course not Sylvia and it was nasty, and personal. But somebody else must have also taken exception to it as it was quickly RRd.

Well I came to Spain to live with my husband. We could go to England & claim every benefit going as there is no additional help for pensioners in Spain, but we choose to stay here & struggle financially.
Which would you prefer us to do?.
Spain is now my adopted country & I owe it my loyalty.
&yes, the Spanish complain about all the foreigners who have flooded the country from Latin America & North Africa.
Most countries have problems with immigrants. It´s nothing new.

We know several people who have relocated to other countries and they all have a better standard of living than we have or ever will have.

Their homes are now Spain, Canada and France.

I don't even want to ever move from here, the place I was born.................not very adventurous am I :-D
