Greedy peers keep food and booze subsidies while waiters' wages are slashed :-|

But as most hard-working Britons tighten their belts in the recession, pampered peers are being protected from losing their dining perks :-|

They are already being subsidised to the tune of £2.3million a year for their posh meals and cheap booze – costing taxpayers around £60,000 a week :-|

Rather than ask them to stump up a bit more for their grub, House of Lords bosses want to slash the pay of those who serve them in their exclusive restaurants, bars and cafes.

Waiters, cooks and check-out workers have been told they are set to lose 50% of their overtime cash so the peers’ can continue to enjoy their subsidy :-|

Furious catering staff are said to be considering a walkout over the move. hey point out that, at an average of around £8.55 an hour, it would take them a full week to earn what a peer pockets in just one day.

The subsidy works out at £83.90 a week for each of the 760 peers, many of whom are millionaires. That’s more than the £71a week Job Seekers Allowance :-|

not only is this going on in the House Of Lords ,exactly the same is going on in the commons ,in this together ? i think not Cameron has kept quiet about this side of things ,time the government on all sides took a pay cut AND lost benefits and perks.Fred :-| :-| :-(

In their main restaurant, Lords, Bishops and Baronesses can enjoy a starter of marinated king scallops with baby fennel, blood orange, puffed pork rind and crisp shallots for just £7, and in their plush Barry Room Restaurant £6 will buy a hungry peer a starter of quail with pancetta popcorn, sweetcorn and red onions :-|
