Thanks, Brenda, granddaughter had a good time bonding with Granddad, he played with her upstairs where her shrieks of laughter didn't go through Mummy's head so much but when she came down, I sent Mummy upstairs to sleep, she was better there than trying to converse with us. She was still asleep when we left, so had a good hour or more. I don't know why her family aren't helping out more, there are enough of them.

I do wish they lived nearer and I would take granddaughter out of their hair for a while, she will be going back to Nursery at least one day a week which will give her Mummy a break and time to spend with baby.

Glad you managed to get over to see the new arrival and had cuddles and feeds.
We forget how small they seem when newly born...but they soon gain weight and don't seem like babies for long these days!

Hope you d.i.l.will start to feel better soon.
Bet you really enjoyed playing with granddaughter.theyre lovely at that age.
We never stop worrying about our families do we?
Look after yourself Liz.

Checked on d.i.l. last evening and she is still feeling bad, ok for a little while in the mornings but flags after lunch. I think she is trying to do too much, the doc told her to rest and more rest. Found out she didn't have an epidural so can't blame the headaches on that, hope she will get well soon

Thanks Jules, I had lots of cuddles and fed little man his bottle. He is lovely, a real sweetie and slept most of the visit. For an 8 pounder, I was expecting a hefty baby but he looks small and doesn't feel that heavy, altho he has lost a couple of ounces. He isn't as big as his sister was in size altho she was'only' 7lb 3 when born. Granddaughter was asleep when we arrived at 2.30 as she wakes up when she hears mum or dad up in the night and then won't go back to sleep. She seems ok with the baby tho and was her usual lively self when she did wake, had us in stitches and had her GanGan upstairs playing hide and seek. O.h. couldn't undo the stairgate at the top of the stairs to come down again and said they were calling us saying Help we are stuck but we thought the laughter and shouting was just them having fun lol Help stuck, seemed to be granddaughter's new phrase after that. She was very entertaining and plays nicely on her own some of the time altho does want cuddles too.

I am worried about d.i.l. tho, she lost a lot of blood altho didn't have a transfusion, but she looks as white as a sheet with big shadows under her eyes, she is very sore and bruised and suffering migraines. She has been to her doctor on Thursday and has lots of various medication to take but she sat on the sofa and looked so tired I sent her up to have a sleep and we entertained granddaughter while son caught up with washing up and doing bits and bobs, altho we did have time to talk with him too. He is maturing well (like cheese ) and is turning out to be a good husband and dad.

Sadly they had to rehouse their cats which were d.i.l's before she met son, one was scared of granddaughter so spent a lot of time hiding, she rehomed her with a colleague's mum but found the other cat pined for her so he's gone to the same new home.

Probably just as well with the way things are, I think it will take a while for d.i.l. to be her usual self and she is finding it frustrating. I hope it doesn't push her into post natal depression which she had before. Son has to go back to work soon after Easter, they need the money but he says he will have to take holiday or arrange something if she still isn't recovered from the birth.

Considering we don't see them often, granddaughter was fine with us and got quite upset when we had to leave, bless her.

O.h. got a card to send them, it said New Baby, a tiny little package all wrapped up with love. You can't send that I told him, he isn't exactly tiny at 8 lb and Mum won't think so either, lol Found a better card and a cute little stripey top with a hood, and animals appliqued to the front. His first hoodie lol

Have a lovely chocolate cake to take with us too

Thanks all, our Friday afternoon visit is confirmed. Mum was home when o.h. rang last evening, granddaughter answered the phone but hasn't got the hang of talking after saying Hello. Will be lovely to see the new baby and gdaughter as well, as we haven't seen her since Nov 4th, just after her 2nd birthday.
