I think Craig is gettng bullied at school because of his weight - why else would he not buy the sweets he was looking at?

Good point about Craig possibly being a witness - he could have been upstairs playing tapes and net twitching, like these soap teens do, and he's worried about not staying there for the requisite number of years before reappearing as a greek god with one of those star flashes on his teeth when he smiles :-D ping!
