I love the purple saucepan set Gwen, but have far too many saucepans already!
I have a set of cutlery I bought in a sale, it was the one my then fiance and I chose but we split up, I saw it reduced and got it, and have hardly used it since lol Just wanted to have it to get one over on him lol how daft is that?

We bought my parents their first new set of cutlery for their 25th wedding anniversary, ok, it wasn't silver but looked shiny. I have it now - I think it might have been Viners.

We were given a dinner service for 12 as a wedding present in 1967 .................... the whole shebang

Royal Doulton Morning Star ...................... dinner set, tea set, serving plates, 2 vegetable dishes, 2 gravy boats and saucers, egg cups, sugar bowl, milk jug

It was a line that they brought out in about 1966 fr young marrieds ................. translucent china, but cheaper than the usual range of Doulton.

We have used that set every day since it arrived in the US 2 months after we were married.

We have never had another set, just some odd plates or bowls that have "arrived" in our cupboards.

We have broken 1 dinner plate and 1 sugar bowl. I managed to replace the sugar bowl .....................

and found 6 perfect dinner plates in a discontinued china service shop 4 years ago.

We were given a cutlery set for 6 which we also have used every day since we got it ..................... though we did replace it "for best" with a service for 12 in the late 70s.

Both sets are stainless steel .........

............. the silver inherited from m-i-l stays in the drawer and is hardly ever used

In fact, we were only saying the other day that we are still using all but 2 items that we received as wedding presents.

Dizzi - things we treasure - our children may not.

Up until about 6 years ago I kept my 'best' cutlery in the sideboard (used for State occasions and dinner parties). One day lightning struck and my kitchen drawer was emptied of the daily cutlery (off to Charity Shop) and transferred over the 'best' which is now every day!!

That's the trouble when you get something posh - it never gets used. Just tends to languish in the back of a cupboard gathering dust, while everyday things get an outing every time. Never really used the dinner service I got for a wedding present.
Shame, really :-(

Merlin Report 19 Mar 2013 13:16

Why DIZZI? Whats the point of having them if you just hide them away? Use them thats what they,re for,not display.**M**. :-D
