I can't view other trees with more than 20,000 names! GR said it's because I don't have the right IE.

I don't understand that, because I could see large trees (well over 20,000) until recently.

My computer is OLD! It won't accept updates of IE. I don't have a problem with any other website. No way am I buying a new computer just to see a tree on GR.

Ridiculous!

I see Sparkling Sandie started a similar thread yesterday - it is annoying! I won't say that it completely spoils the games threads, but it nearly does!

you know, if you remember back to the early days of Free BMD, how dreadfully slow it was, and the solution offered was to access the site in the middle of the night when theoretically it would be less busy.........

this site is actually worse than that in my opinion.........

My annoying error is when I have s few pages ope and move between my tree and say Ancestry or any other site. Each time I go back to my tree it takes me back to my home person, me and not to the person that I left open and have just taken info from Ancestry for.

I haven't had the error message on any of the boards for a while, but I get them when using Messages.

EVERY TIME I send a message to someone (usually the first contact message) I get the error message. Usually the message is sent.......... I check now, because I don't want to send the message multiple times.

Ofcourse, it NEVER happens when "the team" try it.

Indeed he has

6.47.1. Installation of GRUB

Fix an incompatibility between this package and Glibc-2.17:

sed -i -e '/gets is a/d' grub-core/gnulib/stdio.in.h

Prepare GRUB for compilation:

./configure --prefix=/usr \
--sysconfdir=/etc \
--disable-grub-emu-usb \
--disable-efiemu \
--disable-werror

The --disable-werror option allows the build to complete with warnings introduced by more recent flex versions. The other --disable switches minimize what is built by disabling features and testing programs not needed for LFS.

Compile the package:

make

This package does not come with a test suite.

Install the package:

make install

Using GRUB to make your LFS system bootable will be discussed in Section 8.4, “Using GRUB to Set Up the Boot Process”.
6.47.2. Contents of GRUB
Installed programs: grub-bios-setup, grub-editenv, grub-fstest, grub-install, grub-kbdcomp, grub-menulst2cfg, grub-mkconfig, grub-mkimage, grub-mklayout, grub-mknetdir, grub-mkpasswd-pbkdf2, grub-mkrelpath, grub-mkrescue, grub-mkstandalone, grub-ofpathname, grub-probe, grub-reboot, grub-script-check, grub-set-default, grub-sparc64-setup
Installed directories: /usr/lib/grub, /etc/grub.d, /usr/share/grub, /boot/grub

The GRU web server is Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Server). IIS is primarily targeted at corporation intranets rather than the great www for the unwashed et al.Servers for that are usually based on Apache/Linux.

(IIS is also much used for beginner sites where the end user wants to publish to the web from Windows. This 2nd use has mostly been overtaken by blogs and social networks.)

One of the big problems with IIS is that it is difficult to tune for both slow and fast connections. Corporate networks can easily set speeds etc the way they want, public servers not so.

One way around the problem is for the server to have plenty of latitude. That tends to cost money and worse opens up the many security holes of IIS. Thus BS have decided to timeout slow connections ( which gives the error ) whether caused by the end user or ad servers. On other sites using Apache you won't hit these problems even if your 'puter is full of adware and toolbars.

Easiest fix is a fast connection, 10Mb or better.

I have noticed that in several years people moaning about assorted timeout type errors rarely say what kind of connection and speed they are using or even basic machine config such as OS, cpu, memory. Without that information BS.GRU can do little and other members can only guess.

its IS strange because in my case, the board most affected is the quizzes board, all the others seem to be sensible in loading speed
