Recently got a tax free sum and joined Ancestry.

Have been searching for my gg grandfather for ages between 1871 and 1901. He was down as a Master Mariner in 1901, this ties in with family storys. He was born in Southampton in 1855. Followed him in the census until 1871 then no trace until 1901 when he turns up wth a wife and 4 children in Liverpool.

He marries in 1882 in Cardiff although not to the "wife" he is with in 1901.

Have now found his 2nd and 1st Mates Certs plus his Masters Cert. The Masters cert was gained in Cardiff in 1884 andl included an address in Splotlands, Cardiff. Have tried to research the ships he sailed on mention in his records, no luck so far but at last I can afford to order the Cardiff marriage cert because I can not find any info on the lady he married.

Considering a sub to Find My Past as well and could do with ordering some more recent certs as well.

At least the Listening Bank was good for something :-D
