Phyll, I hope you complained. Surely the dentist should have noticed what was happening while cleaning your teeth.

Phyll, that's a bit naughty of them, not to use the bib. Hope you can get the stain out.

Ann, yes school dentist ugh!

I went to a Scots dentist for a long time but he stopped practising because he had cancer and then reached retiring age. He let us down tho, didn't do anything about my son's eye teeth growing horizontally in the gum until it was too late so now he has gappy teeth and two teeth up in the gum doing nothing useful.

We moved to a then new dental practice in the city and they are very good, altho they do have a fair turnover of dentists. Many are Scandinavian or Nigerian, but the girl I have had for the past few years and who sees my son as well, is part Greek/part Hungarian and very nice. That's reminded me, I must make an apptmt before my holiday.

Well. I've been to the dentistand am still alive.
Just a clean and polish and an xray. Got infection in gum but no antbiotics given unless it gets worse. Silly cow forgot to put the bib on me for the clean and polish and I was wearing a white jumper. I always bleed like a stuck pig so guess what, my white jumper is now a lovely shade of pink in the front.

Loz, ah, the dreaded school dentist by the sound of it. Ours was a sadist, a female ugh. But that didn't put me off. I was put off by a young sadistic Asian dentist in the 80s who I couldn't understand half he said. He used to leave the surgery door wide open into the waiting room so you felt exposed to the world if you complained. My teeth were and are very sensitive so when I jumped when he poked at them he said very loudly and crossley. If it is that bad you'd be better off having them all out.

We then left him and for a year had a lovely Australian dentist who even managed to clean my teeth with the electronic 'thing' without me twitching. But *sigh*, he suddenly disappeared, we heard via the media back to Oz. there was some sort of scandal but we never found out what.

The problem with our current dentists is that in the past two years we have had five different dentists so there has been no time to build a 'relationship'. Hopefully this one will stay a while. (He has been here about 6 months. :-)

Glad you survived the dentist, Ann, and hope you rewarded yourself with a large glass of something! After years of having problems with teeth, dentists, it was one of the happiest days of my life when I got my great dentures. Never a days problem with them and when they broke in two one Christmas, a quick Superglue job and they have held up for another ten years! :-D <3

I hate the dentist, always have as my first experience was ghastly, taken along to have some teeth out, possibly my two front ones? not sure why. I don't think my Mum told me where I was going, I was about 6 and we went to this big wooden hut and inside there were loads of people with children crying and a horrible smell, and other children with big lumps of cotton wool and blood on their faces.

We went in and I had this big rubber bung put inside my mouth, I gagged on it and then was given gas to put me out, when I came round my mouth was sore and I had a wodge of cotton to hold inside my mouth. I could taste blood and felt sick.

We had no car so I think we must have walked to the bus stop and made our way home, I don't think I ever got over it, don't know how my Mum was able to take me as she had a fear of dentists too and had to have all her teeth out at the age of 20 - in 1936 - her Dad bought her a set of false teeth for her 21st birthday.

I have the dentist tomorrow for a root canal on the tooth I broke when I fell through the back door some weeks ago...I have damaged the nerve and it has to come out :-S :-S

I suggest you get yourselves a nice set of cheap plastic teeth and spend the dentists money on your holiday :-D :-D :-D

Good luck Carol, Sheila and Phyll. I seem to get worse as I get older, I think because they do a deeper clean than they used to. I was never scared of the dentist until in my 50s.

Well, he just did the inspection today (£20 plus £3. because he said I had to have probes to clean between the teeth.) then two appointments £40 each to clean with local Anaesthetic, but with so many other things on plus a month out of the country those appointments are not until June.

I know how you feel, I too hate the dentist.

Next wed I have to have multiple extractions... been waiting 12 months for this appointment :-( :-(.

I've got an hour-and-a-half root canal job next week. Seem to have been in and out of the dentist for the last few months - more problems with this one tooth than I've had with all the others put together!! Had to have an emergency repair just after Xmas. Tooth has settled down at the moment but it will have to be done sooner or later. The biggest pain for me is the cost :-0 :-0

We have to go to dentist tomorrow. I hate it and am in and out of the loo before I go, absolutely terrified and it's only a checkup.

Those who know me well will know I hate the dentist so really not looking forward to the next hour. It is only a check up but that involves clean and polish. I can't stand the electronic thing so if he won't hand clean have to have it done numbed. :-( :-(
