KIDS MEAL/HEIGHT

I haven't come across the height thing for childrens meals yet.

At the moment my 22 month old granddaughter gets a free 'highchair bowl' if I take her to the local carvery - I will be squeezing her into the highchair for a while yet lol. We often go so she can wear herself out in the soft play area, have lunch then home for afternoon rest!!

Was at a cafe attached to a local attraction last week and ordered a meal with an extra plate, which they were quite happy to do, but apparently the meal I had ordered qualified for a free childs meal. They were 'ok' meals, not the healthiest but everything in moderation, and got us both a meal and drink for under £6!!!

Yes, the offerings on a children's menu do seem to encourage unhealthy eating. Some pubs and restaurants are now offering lighter portions on their main adult menu, which is good news for children and those with smaller appetites I hope this becomes more widespread.

It's scary

Often the healthiest item on a menu for kids is a pizza!

:-(

I agree Scozz. Why are 'children's' meals rubbish.
My youngest has never liked tomatoes - in any form - and a lot of 'children's' meals involve tomatoes.
If the restaurant couldn't give us a smaller sized adult meal - we left.

One of my sons in law is a head chef - and he does smaller adult meals for children - as he knows what his children WILL eat - given the chance - (and it's not sausages/chicken nuggets and beans!!)

My cousin is 53 years old, and her height is 4' 9+1/4"

Don't forget the 1/4 inch, or she gets mad!

Can she get a child's meal?

Stupid rule.

The meals should be called "small portions" and anyone can order them. Lots of people don't want a big meal. Most places it's OK to split a dessert, but not a main course.

I get annoyed at so-called "children's meals"........ they're all deep fried things, with chips, not a veggie in sight.

Never thought of that, Sharron.

Personally, I think 'children's' shoes should go to a bigger size.
My grand daughter (11 next month) has bigger feet than me!

As well as not paying VAT on your clothes.

Does this mean, if you are a person of restricted height, you can get a child's meal?

What I have done in the past is ordered an adult size meal and taken another plate and knife and fork, cheaper than two dinners and no waste. :-D

Some I have been in serve 'lighter meals' which are adult meals but smaller portions which is ideal for some people who don't like massive plates of food.

I don't understand why childrens menu always seem to be nuggets, chips, beans or pizza my gr/children would prefer a smaller version of the adults meals.

Errol my one gr/son has a bigger appetite that why we buy him an adults meal but I have one 10 yr old who eats like a bird but at some places would have to have an adults meal because of age not size. That is wasteful as most gets left.

I don't understand why there is an age or height limit to childrens meals anyway.

There is one cafe we don't use very often because the portions are far too large. A childrens meal would be ideal and we would use the cafe more often.

Surely a bigger/taller/larger child has a bigger appetite so naturally they won't give a child's portion

Hadn't noticed the height thing but on holiday we noticed that the age for kids meals was under 7 years , all of my grandchildren are over that age and I have a six footer 13 year old grandson as well and he always has an adult meal as he has hollow legs :-D
