No, it's not raining men!

We've decided to get solar panels.

Not cheap, but hopefully it should pay for itself in 4-5 years.

Electricity is getting more and more expensive; a 17% rise expected soon, and another 10% (at least) by the end of the year.

Our neighbour, who is a retired builder, has parked himself on a chair on his front porch, watching like a hawk lol He'll probably give the guys some "advice"

I have a neighbour like that - he knows the cat's a**e about everything under the sun - heaven help any council workers who come to do something in the road - he's there

Our neighbour isn't nosy really, he's just making sure the guys do the right thing. lol

He's going out soon, but I expect his dogs will take over the watch

The neighbour on the other side is also a retired builder.......... he'll probably come over and have a chat with the workers lol He'll also be watching, as he had solar panels installed a couple of years ago.

Lots of clomping about going on up there!

Neighbours up the road from here had solar panels on their bungalow roof, must have worked ok cos they had more installed a few months on, the whole roof on one side is covered now.

If I could afford it I would have them on my house if I ever get back there. My extension roof is pitched rather than flat so that would be an ideal place as the sun is on there most of the day.

We dealt with a company from Qld. We live in NSW.

We need a new meter, according to law we have to use an electrician in NSW!

Ofcourse it's the Thursday before Easter, we won't be able to 'phone anybody until Tuesday.

Stupid company should have told us about this!! Not impressed.

I understood that they are not that cost effective

They may not be cost effective in the UK, but they are where we live.

Our neighbours got about 5 panels, and their electricity bill was halved. We got a 3 KW one, can't remember if we have 10 or 12 panels....... and it's night now, too dark for me to go look!

If they had told us, we would have still got them, but arranged for a NSW electrician to be here today.

I got some good news ~ we don't have to pay for the new meter, only the labour. I must make sure not to chat with the sparkie until he's finished

I don't know if solar panels are cost effective or not, but I think they ruin the look of a house - blooming ugly!

Our neighbours have them on the front (roof) of their house, it looks awful.

Ours are on the side. Not the side of the house! There was no point in putting them on the roof at the back of the house, because that only gets morning sun for a few hours.

Our house here is no good for them as the roof points in the wrong direction. But I think AnnC is right in that they have not proved to be cost effective in the UK. Where you are Scozz it will be different because you have more sun.

New digital electricity meter was installed yesterday.

Half an hour later it started raining, and it hasn't stopped.

sorry to disagree with some of you, but solar panels are cost effective in the u.k , if they are sited right ,facing due south .we have had them for 18 month's now , and have already put £1,300 back in the bank, and that's with 2 bad winters and a not very good summer ..

Wow Iris, that's great! Especially for the UK.

We have ten panels, they will generate the electricity we will use, and any extra will go back to the grid, and we get paid for that.

We got the bill from the electrician who installed the new meter.

The meter is FREE, supplied by the electricity company.

I nearly fell over!

He charged $275. He was here for 15 minutes max!

Not a bad hourly rate.
