i used to be one of those that could eat like a horse with the body of a stick insect 10stone wringing wet
then 1 year went to majorca for 10 days and if it had been 14 would not have had a pair of trousers to wear home turned out thyroid gland and needed partial removal due to goitre
now struggle to escape from 15 stone especially since finishing work and not moving around as much (had thyroid function test and can't blame that) must be cake retention

PP. I still say it is calories in-calories out with almost everyone. Very simple. I do understand there are mental and physical conditions - but doubt they are quite as many as claimed.

And if anyone has big bones, low metabolism (both of which I have used) they have to consume considerably less calories than those who have a high metabolism.

It is irritating to watch thin people shovelling lovely fatty food down when others seem to put on a stone looking wistfully at a lettuce leaf, but I have always written down each day exactly what I eat when I have had a weight problem. And we so easily forget the snacks, the glass of wine, the cups of coffee with cream, the biscuits......

And most of us have an "ideal weight" that we feel best at and that probably needs to reduce slightly as we age. Personally, I ignore all the ideal weight nonsense in the official literature. We just all individually know roughly what weight makes us look and feel good. And makes us energised - and not falling asleep and appearing to be lazy all the time.

My sister works for a large supermarket chain and has seen lots of people abandoning their trollies, young, old, middle aged, well to do, not so well to do, some slim, some not so slim.

The common denominator seems to be lack of manners and respect for others.

I think £1 is very good value for a shopping trolley.

In Bognor Hospital you can get a wheelchair for the sameprice.

Lolly. No good arguing about what I said or what I didn't say. Cos someone decided to whoosh 3 of my posts. Will have to wait to see if they are upheld by Genes - but on past few weeks I am not holding my breath that you will see those 3 posts again :-( :-( :-(

I do see the plumpest people parking nearest the entrance. That has been remarked on many times on TV and radio phone ins without station being closed down. So it is a common observation.

They are not the only ones who cause problems for the elderly and disabled, but they usually tell you they are trying to lose weight whilst causing traffic congestion round the store entrance.

And, in my very simple mind, losing weight is consuming (slightly) less calories that you use. So, if you are sedentary and small, you need very few calories.

And if you want to eat 1500 calorie meals and exceed 3,000 calories a day (which many of these large people do), you must be prepared to have a very intensive fitness regime. Which includes parking miles away from your destination and walking. And pushing trollies back to their places if others can't be bothered. And bending over and picking up litter and putting it in bins provided.

Yes, plenty of people are lazy and uncaring about others. But these lazy people I am referring to are always banging on about how they have low self-esteem, want to lose a couple of stone. I am just being sympathetic and suggesting how they can help others and help themselves.

maggiew ....................

I mean "clear away" not just by moving them out of the way, as you do

but taking them back to the stations where they should be, re-attaching the chain, and gaining 25c

That John Is not repeating your last post, it is an edited version your post had no mention of any exclusions for those of us who do not overeat and certainly no qualifications.

What you did or didn't say to your brother is not my business but I would complain like hell if your kick was aimed in my direction

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 29 Mar 2013 23:27

it is very rare to find carts that you do not have to pay for over here.

Hence it is very rare to find carts that are not returned to where they belong ......... even 25c is worth retrieving.

Plus ................. if a cart is left in the wrong place, you can almost guarantee that some homeless person will take it back to the rank, and get the 25c for themselves!

Lolly. I will repeat my last post (expect it will also get whooshed but will try).
1. I did qualify what I meant in an answer to Muffy, I think it was. People with a high BMI who shovel food into their mouths. So that excludes anybody else who may have an unhealthy BMI but doesn't overeat.
2. I think it is 2,500 cals for a man and 2,000 for a woman roughly. But think that is for a person who can do a fair amount of exercise.
3. I said I was more compassionate than you. To be honest, I have no idea who is compassionate and who is not. But it can sometimes be very compassionate to give someone a kick if you think they could do more about their health. I wish I had said something to my bro about his food habits and his smoking and drinking. I miss him, and 57 is ridiculously young to die for totally avoidable reasons.
