Not very observant if he's only seen those who are young and/or overweight leave them anywhere. Inconsiderate people come in all shapes/sizes and ages.

Julia Report 31 Mar 2013 11:35

I'm overweight, and at only 5 foot tall, it shows. But I am not an idler. It is down to the cocktail of medication I have to take to keep my body functioning.
Don't tar obese people with the same brush.

Oh, and I am the one that, seeing a trolly in the car park where it should not be, I take that one in the store with me, to save the young lad, employed for the job, having to push it back to where it should be.

And so I rest my case.

back on topic
This is just a thought, Has anybody thought about starting a project up by getting a group of volunteers to go around the local estate & take shopping trolleys back to the store, in return the store coud offer a discount to the volunteers. Just a thought.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 31 Mar 2013 11:38

Round our way hardly anybody takes their trolley back; J Sainsbury for instance employ a small army of trolley pushers armed with electric tow machines who collected 20+ at a time and return the various sorts to the correct locations.

They even pay the people thus gainfully employed. Leave your trolley alone, make a job!

In France 99.9% of people have a false €uro which they use for the trolleys. Such tokens are also available in the UK. All the same you need to take the trolley back to recover the token.

Mayfield :-D

I had one in B&Q that was so bad that one of the assistants gave me a new one (not new new) and took it to the trolley park in the sky ;-)

One of the problems for supermarkets is that they are responsible for not leaving trolleys everywhere. If a trolley hurts someone in a car park or damages a car, they are responsible.

When a trolley is down the side of someones house or dumped in a river, they are responsible. I remember an incident in Sutton in Surrey (must have been 30 years ago) when Tesco were fined £20,000 by the local council for not controlling their trollies.

Not sure of this, but I rather think Sutton was the first store to have 10p in the slot trollies. And several stores in the 1980's and since have done exactly what BK has suggested. Trolleys cost £40, coin operated trollies £100 when I was ordering them in 1980's. Made a huge difference to profitability of smaller supermarkets particularly and we had to apply higher price lists to those stores (ie customers paid more because we could not control non-coined trollies)

I'm with Lolly on this one, I eat a good diet, can't exercise and have struggled to keep weight gain down over the past 5 and 1/2 years of compromised mobility.

If anyone accused me of being a fat overeater they'd get a tongue lashing they wouldn't forget for quite a while :-D

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 31 Mar 2013 15:25

Do you know it really pi...ss me off that overweight folks are automatically thought of as pigs who just eat and eat

I was almost 10 pound born, the biggest of all mum and dads kids . Am 5. 8 and have always struggled with my weight at one time in my teens I was almost anorexic cos of jibes of being a big girl . I kept my weight down by under eating ,only when I was pregnant did I eat normally so as not to harm my baby, I put on 4 stones and got edema and toxemia was in hospital for a month.

I have since been diagnosed with a very slow metabolic rate and a hormone imbalance. I am morbidly obese BUT am in good health and all my bloods etc are normal . Our doc doesn't go on about about my weight they are pleased its stable and every annual MOT I am told I am doing well.

SO DON'T ASSUME SOMEONE OVERWEIGHT IS A PIG WHO CAN'T CONTROL THEMSELVES ,

Rant over :-P

Silly Sausage Report 31 Mar 2013 15:32

I am overweight because I am bone idle sit on my backside all day munching on jaffa cakes and shortbread biscults , this is not the reason I dont return my shopping trolly to its rightful place its simply fun to leave it in the middle of the car park :-D

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 31 Mar 2013 15:51

I'm overweight because I spend all my benefit money on lard and am so fat I have to be wheeled round in a trolley.
