I'm happy to say I don't have any of these:

http://food.ninemsn.com.au/entertainingideas/295164/probably-pointless-kitchen-tools.slideshow

I also don't have (or need)

An electric rice cooker (what's wrong with a saucepan?)
A garlic crusher (what's wrong with a knife?)
An electric egg cooker (what?)
And loads of other gimmicky gadgets!

What's the silliest gadget you've seen?

:-D

I have a useless kitchen 'gadget'...

My OH ;-), he is not too familiar with the running of a kitchen.. Still doesn't know which drawers 'things' go in.
Perhaps I have spoilt him over the last 33 years....

Love him to bits all the same :-)

PS: my son bought me a plug in wine cooler - for 1 bottle.... :-D. Still in its box

A plasic thing that is supposed to be used to microwave eggs.......no instructions came with it though :-S

It is however brilliant when making playdough shapes or sandhills :-D

Ive got a electric boiled egg cooker does upto six eggs at a time,

one time I was boiling two eggs in a Glass saucepan thingy and forgot about them, became aware of this overheated aroma and found two charred eggs in a near redhot saucepan......

Ah! things with sharp edges and points............fascinating!!
somewhere theres a gadget like a cocktail shaker, you put in your egg, flour milk etc, and shake like mad.......... beware!! make sure its is fully closed and snapped shut, else you get batter mixture all over.........

I use a rice cooker - much better than a saucepan I find.
I also use a garlic press - I prefer it to using a knife.

OH was given one of those egg cuber gadgets. Why would you only want one cubed egg? It went to the charity shop still in it's box :-0 :-D

I can't think of any silly gadgets off hand but silly terms I can - pan fried, oven baked......

I got one of those garlic peelers free with a garlic set at a Christmas market last year.. Can't tell you if it works because I gave it away.

Kitty
That's what I like...Alternative uses for 'useless' items.
It reminds me of a really old thread of mine, which I've just found........

I've just had a look at Scozz link :-0

Those items make my rice cooker look positively essential!

Egg on a stick looks disgusting :-0

Do you remember that company that used to make gadgets in the seventies?

There was one that would beat an egg inside it's shell and another that ,when you wound the handle, would make a cucumber into a long ribbon for all those occasions when you needed a cucumber in a long ribbon.

I've just brought a Robostir, a battery operated gadget that you stand in a saucepan, and it stirs, good for sauces and suchlike, saves you standing there doing it, rubbish for stirring porridge, which I bought it for. really good conversation piece though :-D

Is there a remote or voice control iron been invented ?

Mr Tyson (as I call him... cos his one vacuum cleaner knocks me out when I use it ) might come up with something.

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 2 Apr 2013 22:38

I'm with you $andie :-D

I hate ironing

I remembered........ in one of my kitchen drawers there are TWO plastic thingies for separating eggs, I've never used them (so why do I keep them?).

I tried that method with the plastic bottle, and I broke the yolk :-(

Sharron, K-Tel was the name of the kitchen tat company.

Totally agree with the uselessness of the Garlic Press! most of it gets stuck so you have to use a knife anywat to scrape it out.
