It has been reported in today's Times that Britain’s first new big railway in more than a century looks likely to be run by an overseas operator.

The franchise to run the trains on London’s £15 billion Crossrail route has
been opened to tender and the operators of the Paris Metro, the Hong Kong
mass transit system, and the state rail company of Germany have emerged as
early favourites.

RATP, of France, MTR, of Hong Kong, and Deutsche Bahn have expressed clear interests in running Crossrail in a competition being run by Transport for London.

Is there no British organisation capable of running this ?

I am researching the Wotherspoon family from the Old/New Monkland areas of Scotland, some moved to the Leslie and Kelty areas of Fife and I'm having problems linking the Wotherspoon's from Leslie and the Wotherspoon's from Kelty. I am also researching the Clusker family from Co. Meath in Ireland who moved to West Lothian and from there to Fife............"Vita non est vivere sed valere vita est"

No.

RATP (regie autonome transportes Parisienne) has taken over some British city bus operations with great success.

Anyone who has ever used the RER (resaux express regional) in Paris and its region will see the franchise going to the French as very good news. Much better than either Network Rail or LondonTransport.

The other two are make weights.

I was going to say maybe then they will be clean and on time. I would like to think cheaper but I doubt it.

So much of our infrustructure and services are now owned by companies registered abroad, it's scarey.

I agree +++DetEcTive+++, it is scary, especially in the essential services like, water, gas, electricity, communications, and transport :-(

The French own my energy supplier, the Amercians my car supplier, almost everything I buy is made in China my Parliment seems to consist of a large number of Scottish born MP's.
I haven't seen a delivery driver without an eastern European accent for a while now. The Gremans own Rolls Royce the French own Newhaven harbour so why not the trains, the NHS and the army too! :-S

At least if the French owned the British Army you wouldn't need to worry about your sons and daughters coming back from the front in a box,

If you take the A4 west from Paris towards Germany after an hour or so you will see the fields full of the hundreds of thousands of French man who died, presumably running away from the Boche.
