In pre political correct days tricks were often played on new employees, young apprentices sent off to the stores for a "long Wait" or to the female factory staff to get “a handful of greased nuts" some like the last were a little cruel I’m afraid!
However many were quite inventive I liked the “skirting board ladder” my self.
Anyone got any other favourites to add?

Don't like playing tricks on anyone. Think some of the things that happened to apprentices, or new members of staff were just mental people bullying others in the smoke screen of ' a bit of fun'. Thankfully I didn't experience anything negative.....not that it would have worried me one iota but some people have difficulty dealing with such stupidity. Don't even care if I am the only person in the world who thinks that way.-jl

When I was a young apprentice upholsteress I was sent to shops for a reel of tartan thread...of course I was gullible then...:-S.......but not that gullible :-D

.....but do remember someone being sent for invisable thread and of course you can buy that now :-D

I was a teenager at the time and certainly didn't imagine I was being bullied at all!!....in this life you have to learn to take a joke and not take things so seriously :-D

we used to have lots of fun with some of the headed paper we received - if you got one from the police it had to be used - so you'd copy the paper and then decide what to do with it - the Pope was visiting Cardiff so we sent a letter to one of the nurses informing him that because he had a criminal record he was not allowed to go within five miles of the city centre during the visit!!!

sent one to another nurse asking him to produce his driving documents at the police station

happy days and lots of laughs

I'm sure in the R Navy there were many but OH tells a story of when he was on board an aircraft carrier (60s). He was a Chief PO and working on radar. Something was causing all the fuses to blow and they were tearing their hair out trying to fix it, running all over the ship. A young graduate officer came into the area and said to OH, what's the problem Chief? Now they are exhausted, fed up, and don't know.

OH says to baby officer, 'think the widget must be going the wrong way round sir'. (for those who don't know a widget can be anything very small, bits of plastic, metal whatever, a generic term for a bit of nothing).
Officer goes running off at speed to 'fix it'.

Some time later OH's boss visits area, senior officer. Says 'Don't ever do that again chief'.' goodness knows what young officer had said but he had obviously swallowed it.

No more was said but I bet senior officers had a laugh.
