I seem to remember being told not to drink tea or coffee with meals as they inhibit the way the iron is taken from the food but drink orange juice as it helps your body absorb the iron from your meals.

Good luck

Mersey - just a word of warning - if the doc suggests iron injections in the bum- DONT DO IT! I had them when I was pregnant, and it took 20 years for the big brown stains to fade.......!

I remember my mum saying she had to eat raw liver when she was expecting me but I wouldn't fancy it myself! I had a look out of interest and it seems that some foods inhibit iron uptake so might be worth tackling if from that angle as well.
Listed were
Eggs
Milk
Coffee & Cocoa
Walnuts
Sweet potatoes
calcium supplements should be avoided with meals

Ok thats internet infiormation and that's not always right but worth doing some research.

Just don't go rusty!
Mayfield :-D

I had just given birth to my son and visiting time came round

In came the new dads all carrying beautiful flowers and lovely boxes of choccys.

Behind them came my dear old mum carrying 2 bottles of glucose stout

Funny how that memory has stayed with me for nearly 50 yrs :-D

Mersey, have you asked GP to refer you to a dietitian as you should be able to get advice there?

Slow release tablets are what you need and Vitamin C chewable tablets.
Do not take with milk as this inhibits the absorbsion of Iron. Vitamin C enhances absorbsion.

Ask your dr for slow release tablets - they prescribe these for pregnant women who have trouble taking ordinary tablets that they are prescribed.

Slow Fe are very good and can be prescribed by the doctor.
