That's a fair point KenSE, I haven't seen much nudity on tv lately, perhaps because it is no longer 'shocking' as it was in the '70s? perhaps then programme makers pushed the boundaries, now they don't need to as much?

I disagree about the nudity. There were plenty of programmes in the seventies with nudity.

Examples I remember are: Casanova, The Lie, I Claudius, Schalken the Painter, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and sometimes in Monty Python.

Can't say I've seen much on TV lately but I don't watch TV as much these days.

I have to agree with everything Rose said. what was produced in those days was comedy exposing bigotry, it was fresh ,topical and yes funny.

Nowadays it would be difficult to re- produce the same, bigotry and racism have taken on much darker shades and whilst a work of drama is possible, comedy would not be seen in the same light.

There have been and still are shows produced with ethnic roots that expose their own quirks and prejudices and even some comics on the circuit that do the same.

I laughed at "Love thy neighbour" too Dizzi, because at the time it highlighted, in the manner of those times, how stupid it was to be prejudiced. The black neighbour and the white neighbour individuals who really were very little different from each other,

I think it was fairly representative of the general situation at the time, lots of new and upwardly mobile immigrants coming face to face with old fears and prejudices of the white British...and vice versa.

The times have changed, 'we' have changed, the unfamiliar has become familiar... tv programmes have changed to reflect that.
