Glad to report that I have now heard from the Ancestry member and there IS certainly a connection

Are there any records attached to the mutual relative, or to any of their descendents?

I've noticed that when one of my contacts lets her membership lapse, the attached records disappear even though the events are still there. When she re-subscribes, they are back again.

Of course, there may be some instances where someone doesn't attach records, but probably a high percentage do

No difference really to the same thing happening on here.

Doesn't help your problem - but when you say "haven't been on Ancestry since" - it only shows recent visits after logging out and in in again, and lots of people (like me) don't bother to log out (same applies to GR). I have followed up leads in a same day entry - but their record says "not for over six months".

And sometimes - the snag with Ancestry's public trees - you find that the identical record has in fact been got from your tree! but they don't always own up. I've had a few disappointments like that

It's so infuriating as I feel sure we could help each other with our research

Same here. I wonder if these people have only a monthly subscription and then gone :-S :-S

I sympathise Barbara as I contacted someone a couple of years ago who had my ancestors in his tree with wrong information.

Have tried many times but no answer :-(
Good luck x

Went on Ancestry a couple of months ago and found known ancestors of mine on another tree - have PM'd the person whose tree it is but they have still not been on Ancestry since. I go on nearly every day to check as I know we are researching the same family from the 1840s.

I am growing so inpatient and frustrated . . .

Oh, well.
