My other half has a gee whiz laptop with Win8 and Office 2010. She hates it.
So it runs Windows XP in a virtual nachine, IE8 ' all.

good luck

Thanks Rollo

As I am using Windows XP and IE8 think I will just leave the messages alone

Did have any reply from the Team this afternoon who have offered to delete messages.

Thanks everyone

GRU does not function properly using Internet Explorer 8 on XP. This is not the fault of either XP or IE8. It is due to poor coding by GRU developers who are over reliant on canned AJAX and CSS library code they barely understand.

GRU will function perfectly correctly using Mozilla Firefox 19 or 20. Firefox interface is much closer to IE than that of Chrome. There is even an IE "skin" available whi8ch makes Firefox look like IE8.

Chrome also supports GRU just fine. I have not seen any Chrome specific bugs with GRU, just the ones it has all the time whatever it is running on.

Machines still using XP need to have at least 1 GB memory installed if they are to function properly. Far too many have only 512MB or even less.

It is commonly put about that XP will die in 2014. It is already not supported for fixes by Microsoft. From April 2014 Microsoft will no longer issue security fixes. SO what to do?

There will be life in the old dog after April 2014
(1) Microsoft release (free) a roll up file in .ISO format once each quarter for XP. Make sure you get the Q3, 4 for 2013 and Q1 for 2014.
(2) The usual AV companies will continue to provide security support for XP anyway.

The chances of Mozilla / Chrome / Opera dropping XP support any time soon are very low. Chrome is the most likely to do so though.

With those numbers, don't think that is a volume problem. I have around 2,500 each in both in and out and apart from getting the dreaded time out message from time to time when accessing sent ones, deleting works ok.

Back to the drawing board.....!

Do you have access to another pc, a friend's perhaps, to see if it still a problem from there?

GlitterBaby Report 5 Apr 2013 15:34

I did give the Team permission to see if they could delete a couple of messages for me which they did

Not had a clear out of my messages for about a year.

Inbox - 1043
Sent - 577

So could be a volume problem then.

I'm not keen on Chrome and we don't have it on any of our PC's.

Firefox is my browser of choice and it works equally well with XP and W7. The XP pc is now around 10 years old, the W7 one 5. Both pc's have had memory upgraded to the maximum that they can support and other than keeping their software up to date that's about it really.

I wonder if the problem with deleting messages is to do with the sizes of your GR mailboxes? In which case GR will have to sort it for you as tweaking your pc is unlikely to help.

Out of interest approx how many messages do you have?

My problems about deleting of my messages has been around for weeks.

Nothing to do with GR Its Google throwing its toys out of the pram.

Its having a go at IE.... started yesterday by Google withdrawing its spellchecker. :-P

Shirley

If you are having problems on this site using Google Chrome then I can not see why the Team keep suggesting to me to change

Thanks Rose.

Really need a good reason why I need to change to Google Chrome.

I can put up with not be able to delete messages but if I am going to get more problems on this site then I am going to have to give it some serious thought.

GB, I can't really tell you what the differences would be, but I have used Chrome on son's PC when mine was down, it does seem to be quicker on GR when I do, but then again normally I use XP and have not had any of the problems many seem to have had.
Just a thought though re deleting messages, my inbox shows I have 6 ...even though they have been deleted long ago.

I have Chrome on this PC, mine, and XP and it doesn't seem to affect anything if I switch to it ( I do that if I want to play 'angry birds' lol)

I am having loads of problems with this site.

If I contact Support they save using Windows XP does cause problems. They are always suggesting to me that I change to Google Chrome.

My latest problem is not being able to delete messages on this site either in my Inbox or Sent ones.

A bit worried about changing to something which I know nothing about or if it will cause any problems to what I have setup on my computer at the moment.

Any thoughts on this would be welcome

Cheers
