Well I went for my scan today at 3pm. It is was pretty uncomfortable. The tube was one of the small ones and it almost touched my head - just kept my eyes shut tight the whole 45 mins. 4 times they did it and it got hotter and hotter on my back. |

I had this problem a couple of years ago when I had to have a brain scan. The neurologist arranged for me to have it done in a scanner without sides. The machine came down to my face but I could see out of the windows through the sides. I was still nervous but did not feel trapped in the scanner. |

Hospital are aware of folks being scared of claustrophobia etc. I myself was worried but they do reassure you. |

When the appointment came for my first scan, the accompanying letter said that if I thought it would pose a problem for me, then I should visit my own GP for a mild sedative, as they did not give these. |

Because hubby has body twitches he was given a mild sedative before he was taken in for the scan. he said he closed his eyes and nodded off and it was over before he knew it . |

You must tell them your problem at the hospital and let them decide what is best for you. I'm sure they would have dealt with this problem before. |

Pretty sure you will be given a sedative at the hospital before the scan, so I wouldn´t recommend taking anything before hand |

Ask the pharmacist NanaSue..it would be unwise for anyone to recommend anything on here, even something that worked for them, without knowing what pre-existing conditions or allergies you might have. |

Old age is catching me - have to have an MRI scan Sunday. Grandkids say it is just pushing Nanny in a tunnel to take a photo of her inside. |
