Sorry Sheila about delay in 'getting back' :-(..I had posted reply (honest ) but now it's gorn :-0

I eventually found it was a repeat via Francis Frith collection page, there is now a book out to compliment the series :-)

Yes, I think it was on BBC4 last year :-)

A bit sneaky of the Beeb to make out it's 'new' - I was hoping it would be a continuation but it appears to be the same series, and I had to dig about a bit to find that out.

I wasn't aware it had been on before Lynda, first time I've seen it.

Did a bit Googling and found there was a programme last March, but think this is a new series, unless some other members know and can tell us different.
Anyway I'll be watching over the next few weeks. :-)

Has this been on before Mau, only I seem to remember John Sergeant, in something very similar last year?

Thanks Carol I think this will be a very good series.

The Francis Frith site is a great way to trace places where our ancestors lived and I've had lots of information from the readers' section.
I've put a link here in case any members haven't visited the site before.

... is a ten-part BBC 2 series presented by John Sergeant..........
on the extraordinary achievement of Francis Frith, the pioneer Victorian photographer who embarked upon a colossal project to photograph the United Kingdom during the 19th century.

John Sergeant retraces Frith's photographic journey through history, hoping to find the exact spots where forty photographs from The Francis Frith Collection were taken and then take his own pictures, capturing the mood of the place and people as it is now.
The series started this afternoon (think there was a couple of links in March) but is also shown Monday evening.
Definitely worth a look and today's programme was about London.....Chelsea pensioners,Covent Garden and Tower Bridge.
