Oh yes, I watched the programme about Terry Lloyd's daughter going to Iraq with Mark Austin - my goodness, what a journey they both made, physically and emotionally draining I would think.

Just watching the Rory Peck Awards each year serves to remind us how many journalists, cameramen, translators etc are killed or injured each year whilst working....a horrendous number, far too many!

Thanks all, for your good wishes ;-)

I have immense respect for Frank Gardner in so many ways.

It will be an incredibly emotionally charged journey for him, but I'm sure he will handle it with the same amount of courage which he has shown since that dreadful day when he was injured.

Take care Karen. Cx

I watched the programme about Terry Lloyd's daughter, it was interesting to understand how things work for the journalists and photographs, altho very sad as well.

I have been impressed by the way Frank Gardner has coped with his disability and he is brave to go back to where he was shot and had his life changed so much.

Karen, good luck on your return to the desert

Very brave man. As was Terry Lloyd.

I hate the term "friendly fire".

I saw that programme as well, EOS.

Dear Karen in the Desert

Hello

The news correspondents work under terrible conditions trying to get the real version of events out to the rest of the world.

I saw a little of the programme about Terry Lloyd, the ITN reporter killed by
so-called friendly fire. His daughter returned there with the Newscaster Mark Austin.

I totally agree with you Karen;
Mr Gardner showed incredible courage.

Hope you have a safe journey Karen and you will keep in touch with us, won't you.

Take gentle care
Very best wishes
EOS

Frank Gardner (BBC Security Correspondent) has been back in Saudi Arabia this week, including visiting Riyadh where he was shot at point blank range and left for dead 9 years ago, the same incident in which his cameraman Simon Cumbers was killed.

I take my hat off to him - what an incredibly brave man to make the trip back and face his demons. I can't imagine the scale of emotions he must have experienced at being back there.

The programme goes out on Wednesday, on BBC 2 at 9pm.

Karen (about to return to the desert).
