She woke me at 8.30 this morning. Howling and very agitated. Got downstairs and she had wet and messed on the floor over night which was unlike her to do that. Running around like a dog half her age and would not calm down. Panting did not sound right either.

Had a similar problem earlier this year which meant a stay overnight at the Vet and with her being sedated.

Took her straight to the Vet. Got asked the same questions as the previous visit. Could she have eaten any drugs ? Might be a brain problem?

Poor Suzy would not calm down. Made the decision to have her put to sleep.

They took her out back to try and sedate her before bringing her back to put her to sleep. All I could hear was her howling.

So I made the decison for the Vet to get her calm and for them to do what was necessary when the time was right.

Thank you Suzy for more than 14 years of your company.

Gone but not forgotten.

So sorry to hear this......it's heartbreaking but you know you've done the right thing for your girl.....the ultimate act of love...((((hugs))) x

It is hard, but you know it was 'her time'. It is only a few weeks since Molly Dog crossed the Rainbow bridge, so I understand how you are feeling. Take care.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

What a terrible day for you. So sorry. But, yes, you knew Suzy better than anyone and that sounds the right thing to do in those circumstances - for you and Suzy <3 :-)

So sorry for your sadness.

It's never easy making that sort of decision, but you put her before your feelings and out of love let her go.

It was on the cards as she was over 15.

She and her sister had given me some much pleasure over the years. They are now together again.

GlitterBaby my heart goes out to you, having lost my two dogs, they were brothers, I know just how you are feeling, and as you said, Suzy may have gone but she will never be forgotten <3

I once went to a midweek Bible study led by a very elderly and absolutely Bible-based Vicar. He was talking about heaven. Very practical stuff like where it was, physical size etc - all from obscure Bible verses he had dug out.

One question at end was "Do animals go to heaven?" The answer appeared to me and others to be no. After a brief discussion, one lady said "I know I will go to heaven, but my little Muffy will not. I will be so sad in heaven without Muffy."

The preacher asked "Can you imagine heaven without Muffy?". "No" she said. And neither can Jesus, he replied. Not sure about the theology, but thought it tied in nicely with your Rainbow Bridge story. It is absolutely lovely, Carol.

Apologies for being a bit religious. Rainbow Bridge just reminded me of that reassuring Bible study all those years ago.

Sorry to hear about Suzy. Heartbreaking for you but I am sure you have done the right thing for her. Enjoy your memories.

it's gut wrenching to lose a pet - been there many times - takes such a long time to get over it too - you did the right thing, hard though it was <3 <3 <3

My thoughts are with you.I had to make the same decision last week for my nearly 15 year old Chester.It's heartbreaking but we have to do the right thing for our pets when the time comes.We will always remember the happy days :-D

It is not a life ended,it is a life filled up.

She had had all the love she needed and probably much more besides.

When I have to lose a pet I think that I have everything another one could need and that there are so many needing it that it is almost a duty to get another as soon as possible.

It is always too soon for the human being, a desolation of empty days.
And then eventually one empty day to many.
And a new home is there for a puppy, a kitten, a rescued animal, a yearling.
But the ones before are never forgotten.

Sorry to hear this...our pets are part of the family,and although we know their life span is a lot shorter than ours,it is heartbreaking when we lose them.
