This may work.

Buy or acquire a load of timber.
You may get away with wooden pallets if they are in fairly good condition.
Now, at the furthest part from the house possible, construct a platform. We call this "decking".
With any luck your pests will migrate towards the new construction because Ants loves Decks.

Thank you May, I have seen these plastic discs in the Kleeneze or Betterware catalogues so I will buy a couple and hope these work for us, they will be much better and leave no lingering peppermint smell.

hi, you can buy ant traps, they are round plastic discs and you break the spurs off that are around it and put it wherever you have ants, they take the poison to the nests and after a little while you wont get any amts.i use them every year and am ant free.you can buy them from any good supermarket, garden centre or wilkinsons.they dont make a mess like the powder or nippo, try them you will be amazed.they are sold twos.

We have had them in the kitchen for a few years.
Have tried baby powder.... smells nice but never worked. Will try the white vinegar or the diluted lemon juice or both methods and see if they will disappear. Am using peppermint oil just now.... fingers crossed we haven't seen any since putting this in a small dish inside the sink unit. Smells a bit "old-fashioned" but that fits in as we are both OAP's.!!

usually black ants will come in out the cold,,,,,they are little pests and seem to come out at night and get everywhere where food is,,,,,,,unlike them little red ones they dont seem to bite and was told they live in brickwork during the winter.

think it will have to be a flame thrower Rose,,,,,, :-D.

Hi Rose, my daughter and son- in- law had them in the living room a couple of weeks ago, and couldn't get rid of them until they were told by their neighbour to put ant powder on a 2p coin. By the next day the ants had gone and they haven't had any since. Hope you get rid of them very soon.

Sallie.

Brenda I must have missed your thread, I think you are right about them being cold!

I will give the vinegar a go definitely, though I am very tempted by Merlin's suggestion :-)
