Hi Natasha :-D

I wish you well in your new position, and hope you get some laughs at some of the threads

My concerns ~

The phantom RR'r

Facebook ~ why are things posted there before the GR website? Members should come FIRST!

Hi Natasha and Welcome :-)

Yes. I agree with Scozz: we need to find out who The phantom RR'r is! GR need to make it so that only subscribed & logged-in members (in my opinion) can RR stuff. (RR = 'Report' nowadays, but used to be 'Request for Review'). Non-subscribed members could have a 'Contact Us' button or similar if they were offended.

Speaking of offence, if I want to discuss the existence of God I want to do it on an existentialist thread not on the Christian thread. I might use the Christian thread to offer someone some encouragement but I wouldn't be doubting the deity there. :-0

Hi Natasha, Welcome to the boards. :-D

I wondered if it could be explained to some of the not so nice helpers that Yes they do help by their own choice and this does not give them the right to scare off posters with their sharp tongues when things do not go as they want them to. I for one do not use those boards because of the controlling methods of some of the so called helpers. There are of course some wonderful helpers who come across as beautiful people who help because they enjoy it and not because they want to control all the content on said boards. I am sure they do help people, but what of those they scare off by their bossy ways.

I have often seen complaints on the boards that it is a genealogy board not a chat board but see those same people who complain about it vehemently to the point of sharply telling others not to, do exactly the same thing. take a look at those boards.....there is unrelated chat on the trying to find ancestors as well as the other boards then look at who is complaining or having goes at those more gentler than themselves.......I personally don't over care about the chat. It makes it more human in my opinion...but I do care about the attitude of those who try to force others to do what they themselves don't do.....hypocrisy. I also care about the feelings of the posters who dare to make a mistake with their postings, I bet they don't post much after getting a tongue lashing from the self appointed gurus.

Sorry Natasha, I got carried away but do hope that you will read many threads to gain knowledge of exactly what goes on on these boards.

Again, welcome
:-D

Thanks for all the luck everyone!

Hi Kay – The new names package is a work in progress so it may be a few months before a decision is made.

Hi Rambling Rose, thanks, I will make sure I regularly check the Suggestions Board.

Hi Scozz & Sue, thanks for the feedback. We do keep a record of members who continually report posts unnecessarily, I will pass your concerns onto The Team.

Hi Susan, thanks for your thoughts, don’t worry, I will be reading through the threads on all boards.

I agree Susan10....... Many moons ago I was subjected to sarcasm and barely veiled ridicule by 'helpers', I'm sure I was very annoying, but was new to the threads and certainly didn't mean to be!! Since then I've not asked for any help apart from one person on a personal basis who was kind enough to be patient, as I simply didn't again want to be on the receiving end of someones 'sharp tongue' over a genuine misunderstanding. It would be nice not to feel that any more?!!!!

Welcome Natasha, hope you enjoy your new post, thats if we get to read the replies or send our reply without the Error notice appearing ,I usually go off Gr then join again and lo and behold my reply is always there.... but best of luck, dont let them bully you ...

Hi Natasha, welcome to your new position. It will be nice to have someone to communicate with if the need arises-it makes it a little bit more personal, instead of the faceless/anonymous GR committee.Good luck!

Margot.

If Natasha has the chance to read the board she will soon see how the helpful members do help on the boards.

One thread which has now been deleted - a "helpful" member, who does not actually help on the boards - persuaded the member to delete their thread.

When the helpful members get verbally attacked we have the right to reply. But some seem to have more rights than others. If we try to defend ourselves the post gets sent for review but the person that started it off gets away scott free. Hardly fair.

I can only think of one "self appointed guru" but will obviously not post the name.

Not sure how one member can have an opinion on the helpers without knowing the facts first.

Yes I know this is not what this thread is for but felt I had to reply.

Susan10146857 Report 13 Apr 2013 19:08

The facts have spoken for themselves over many years. I do not know which occasion is spoken of or wish to know. The problem I speak of, as I say, has been going on for years. helpers come and helpers go the problem stays the same.

The above post makes a few insinuations by which I do hope the poster wasn't intentionally finger pointing...I for one have no knowledge of any thread being deleted or indeed understand the post.

I'm sorry if the person above has felt my post was about them but again I say, It is a problem that has gone on for years and hopefully it will be addressed.
