Hi,
My Bosch tumble dryer has decided to give up the ghost,(it's only 8 yrs old) and only used mainly during the winter, for towels etc we've priced out having it repaired but too costly, getting it out of the overfilled garage is going to be fun!

Could anyone please recommend a good (inexpensive) make?

For those who like a reliable machine that works well and are tight fisted when it comes to domestic gadgets then this has worked for us:

It is ez going on electricity, has a timer and is fairly quiet. It must be vented.

If OH forgets to shut the door the cats tend to go to sleep in it.

Got this one for my daughter and she is well pleased with it.

Mine is a Phillips and was left by the previous owner, we've been here 10 yrs now, so don't know when he bought it, but quite a few years before l would think. He was only at the house 6 - 9 months of the yr....but its great and still works brilliantly:)....... lets hope saying this won't put the whatsits on it!!!

Tumble dryers are the biggest fuel guzzlers of all domestic appliances. For example, our entire home electric consumption is around 11kw per day and we have a washing machine, dishwasher, 2 fridges, 2 freezers, pc's, televisions, electric powered oven, etc etc but no dryer.

A dryer, used for one cycle a day would, typically, increase our consumption by up to a quarter.....!

An A rated driers costs around one third to run than a C rated one, apparently you could save in the region of £60 a year, so well worth looking closely at the rating comparisons.

We have a Hotpoint Aquarius and it's really good. We'd get another the same make when it pops it clogs.

It may guzzle electricity but that's better than having wet washing around for days.

You pays your money and takes your choice. As long as you are aware of the effect on your fuel bill that's absolutely fine.

Many people are oblivious to appliance running costs and believe if we all plug out our phone chargers and TV's when we go to bed and put a low energy bulb in the lounge we will save a fortune - we won't. It is those appliances that generate heat which use all the energy.

It's well worth getting an energy monitor, they don't cost much and some electric companies even supply them for free.

A real eye-opener when you see what is really guzzling your money every day.
