I don't think there's any doubt it's part of a popular campaign to get it to number one because Thatcher died.

I don't think it's that important, though, most people will neither know nor care.

And who knows how many of the 20 000 downloaded it because of MT's death and how many from this or other countries for other reasons

To put this into perspective...this song has been downloaded 20 000 times which equates to 0.031 % of the population.

It doesn't do to dwell on that, Paula, some very strange people about. :-D

Some nasty messages there but nothing worse than was posted by the rabid right when Michael Foot died. Par for the course.

I agree Gwen, but I do wonder what makes some people "tick"

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 11 Apr 2013 14:18

Paula, The may be confusion? their is a page on FB with that title set up in 2009 but it had nothing to do with Thatcher, however people have used that page since her death to post Hate messages

There are several other groups now joining in using that title

Ah, thanks, Paula. The Facbook one only started a few days ago. Best thing is to ignore it if people are upset.

Guinevere Report 11 Apr 2013 14:05

I've had a look at the group - it hasn't been there 6 years, Paula, where did you hear that?

Not shocked by who set it up either, no one I know or recognise.

At the heart of nearly every funeral there will be a grieving person..........I hope these people just behave even if its just for a couple of hours, thats all anyone can ask for,,,,,not keep demanding respect where very clearly non can be given.

Dignity will come from the people attending the funeral,,,,,,,Joe Public hasnt been invited.

Paula, You would be shocked others would/should be ashamed if they new who was behind some of these FB campaigns

I have just heard on the radio, a group of "activists" have been campaigning for six years on facebook urging everyone to buy or download this record when Mrs Thatcher died, their aim is to make it Number One. How sick can these people be?

LilyL

LilyL Report 11 Apr 2013 13:46

Seriously, I daresay she would!!!!

Saw a great comment in the media - Why is the taxpayer paying for the funeral - it should be put out to tender, after all Margaret Thatcher herself would have wanted that !

agree Muffy

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 11 Apr 2013 12:04

I expect the BBC will play it.

Don't quite know how I feel about it though. I don't like censorship so for that reason if people have bought it then I guess it should be played.

On the other hand I think it's sick making.

Joeva

Joeva Report 11 Apr 2013 12:01

Back on topic .................

The record is now at number one and the BBC are considering whether to ban it,
rather than having to play it on their chart show.

The Tonypandy Riot came about because the miners rebelled and their grievence was.

They wanted a pay per day wage,,,,,,,not a pay per load of coal wage they got paid by how much coal was brought up,,,,,,so a bad seam could mean a living or not.It often meant working in dangerous conditions to make the day pay.

Funny because its been on TV about it today.!
