just received a letter from DAMART!!!! with "Your time sensitive documents enclosed" printed back and front of envelope!! Inside it tells me ""Please take a deep breath because you may feel a little light-headed when l tell you........Congratulations Mrs H you have scooped £51,000 as the winner in our prize Draws Tax Free!!"

It also says:

"Mrs H,l now have great pleasure in requesting your company to present you with your cheques totalling £51,000. l look forward to handing over the prize money to you at the venue we ave agreed upon!

What aload of crap....but sadly how many people would fall for this.
This is a company l have dealt with once for someone else, but l keep getting post and emails, l have asked them to stop emails and they will get a rude letter or email or phone call, phone call might be better from me regarding this rubbish!!

PLEASE IF ANYONE ELSE GETS ONE OF THESE LETTERS DON'T FALL FOR IT.......in the small print it says " your name has been selected to be eligible for a life-changing financial opportunity"...

Such a con!!

jude....... :-P :-P :-P..to DAMART

Hello Jean...really, what did you think of it??

Disgusting for a reputable firm to send out letters like that. I would say in your letter to them that you are forwarding the letter to the National Press.

Robert Report 15 Apr 2013 12:12

It also says "this is not a letter saying you have won. It is just a sample of the letter you would receive if you win" - or words to that effect.

If something looks too good to be true, it usually is.

I must say I saw quite easily and quickly the comment quoted by Robert!

Hello Robert:)...it does say its a sample....but the implication is l have won,and thats what innocent people will see first and foremost. There was something on TV recently about a ladies mum, did'nt see it all, but the mums house was full of letters of similar contents and l gather the mother had believed them!!!!!!
l did'nt believe it for one minute:))

Its still a scam.

l'm in the middle of an email now and l will send something similar to a newspaper:))

Hello Elizabeth:)...l did to, but some may not want to read that or whatever, the beginning of the letter is very cleverly written it implies l have won, sample or not!!

Unfortunately my parents used to believe this type of thing, they just didn't seem to be able to comprehend that there are people out there in the big wide world all set to rob us of our hard earned pennies! And my mum in law is much the same. I lost count of the amount of times my dad used to believe all the Readers Digest letters telling him how he'd been especially selected for such n such a prize draw :-(

I wonder if it's the older generation, coming from a time when people didn't have so much, that they are particularly gullible and trusting, in all innocence. My mum would give her last penny to anyone she thought was in dire need. .....unlike wot we've got to be, ie suspicious about everyone and everything for fear of being scammed left, right and centre!!.

Does anyone know a person who actually won a prize from Readers Digest? :-D

wisechild Report 15 Apr 2013 14:11

My mother must have been one of Damarts best customers, judging by the number of similar letters she had from them.
She´s been dead now for 5 years. They must be feeling the pinch :-0

hi Merlin, in 1985 I won £10 from Readers Digest, go some premium bonds with it, never won a thing yet.

Wow, a real person who got something from Readers Digest prize draw - must admit until now I didn't think there were any genuine winners.
Judging by their (acclaimed) prize monies I'm surprised ;-) it was only £10 as their literature/junk mail purports prizes are always in the £ 000000's :-D :-D :-D

Jude, I'd be interested to know what Damart come up with in their reply :-)

Someone I know had won something on Readers Digest but not claimed as she had forgotten about it. They tracked her down some time later and she had won £2,000.

What about forwarding the letter (copy of it) to Trading Standards, or the progs on the tv about being scammed.

I have had letters like that in the past, when you don't have much money it's easy to get excited till you read the small print.
