Not only is it St Georges Day, it's World Book Night too.

Anyone get books to giveaway? Or has anyone been given a book yet?
Half a million books to be handed out.

The Library that I work in is hosting a Dutch Event as they are promoting Girl With The Pearl Earing by Tracy Chevalier. (it's my day off!)

I was given a book this afternoon for World Book Night.

Thanked the person who was giving the books out..

Got it home and looked at the book and when I opened it up.

There was a notice inside saying""Page 14 to page 47 missing..

Ahhhh looked an interesting book.

so went on the site I use for books and ordered it ,hopefully all the pages will be inside..

Oh that's rotten Sue.
As far as I know, the WB books are chosen in advance by a voting system.
Once the titles are chosen, copies are printed, especially for the giveaway .
They are usually printed in a different font ect from the original published version and state on the inside that they are WB editions.
20 copies, of a single title, are given to one person to give away.
Why provide sub-standard copies?

A great idea.
In Manchester they are giving a load of books to homeless people apparently - thoroughly wonderful initiative.
