I am pleased and proud that I have reached the age of 81 and still have my faculties, am known as the unofficial secretary of the court where I live and do secretarial tasks for those in need. Have just spent three weeks of fun wining and dining with my family who were across from Brisbane, Australia and am now wondering what to do next, all suggestions gratefully received, as if I need them.
Onwards and upwards is my motto for the day but reckon a little more sunshine and settled weather would not go amiss to allow me to start on potting my garden plants :-)

It is absolutely amazing to me the ages some of you are admitting to. You carry your years very lightly on threads :-)

I am 67 soon. An elderly lady asked me how old I was the other day. So I said, quick as a flash and with a straight face "93". She was taken aback! "My, you are a year older than me. You are looking good for your age"

I thought it better not to confuse her by telling her I was only pulling her leg. She seemed quite happy that such a handsome and vigorous (and modest) man should be about the same age as her. ;-). And age is only a number.

I am 10.

Take my age -82- add the 8 and the 2 = 10.

Old age is something that creeps up on us uawares! I think it was Sir Walter Raleigh who gallantly described Queen Elizabeth 1st as 'A lady whom time hath surprised'!!

I'm honestly impressed with the age of some people on here. I'm finding it hard to come to terms with some issues which have suddenly cropped up and I'm told are age related. Doc says I need to get my mojo back

wll I've done the three score years and ten plus a fair bit more - yet in my head I'm in my twenties - I do more now than I ever did when I was younger, been to more places around the world, tried more things I never tried before - I'm fortunate that my parents were very young looking - Dad often being taken for my boyfriend - Mum had lovely skin, no wrinkles and I think I follow her in that respect - I do my utmost to defy old age and think I am succeeding quite well - finding the gardening a bit hard these days and can only do it in short spells, but getting there, albeit slowly

Age is definitely a state of mind and when I've met up with old school friends, some from babies class, I'm horrified how they have let themselves become granny looking, facilally and dresswise

I have about 100 pairs of shoes and far too many clothes - I feel sorry for my son and daughter in law when they get to dispose of my belongings

Age a number & boy it has done a number on my joints :-(

I am 3 months younger than Dizzi, so as she is not old I cannot be either :-D :-D


As for the fact that many of us are over 60, could be that we now have more time to spend attempting to find our ancestors.

I have a friend who would never tell people her age even when she was in her 20s, I knew because she is a year younger than me.

I will be 73 this year, I hardly ever think about it until I try to do as much in the garden as I used to be able to do. Actually when I write it down it comes a sa surprise to me. When I was in my middle sixties we were out walking with our three grandsons, J who was about 14 at the time said to my OH as I climbed over a stile. "Nana is a one off isn't she Granddad?"

In my head I think I am still in my 40s, in my back probably my 80s.

Heading rapidly towards 68. How did that happen? Last time I looked I was heading towards 60 & retirement.

and every time I look in the mirror I see my mother looking back at me :-D

Age? What is "Age?" Something with different aspects judging from the multifarious remarks inscribed on these pages.
My late maternal grandfather managed the century plus one day. His recipes for longevity, treacle with your cornflakes & milk, while you have two legs use them.
His remark was, "While they are going, so am I". Noticed using Sloans Liniment
sometimes. Regards work, "Hard work killed nobody but worrying about it does".
Give the benefit of the doubt to the other person. His message on eating was,
"Leave the table when you feel you could eat a little bit more".
He did accept that in his early days much of his walking was over grass and not on concrete and that was the probable cause of his feet being in excellent condition.
No corns or callous, dry skin etc.. Born 1851 died 1951 and just for the record I am
1926 vintage.

Certainly given me a boost - Thursday took heavy painkillers and actually managed to cut the lawn in the back - took me longer than usual but hey I did it.

Local Turkist shop has all kinds of plastic gizmos from Turkey. Bought an extra wide industrial size long handled dust pan.

Yesterday managed to cut the 3 sided front hedge. My friend who is a bit of a wuss about anything nature actually volunteered to sweep it all up. Finished in two shakes of a lambs tail. What a great labour saving tool. Well worth the £9 paid for it.

Today sun is shining - got to deliver campaign leaflets - suddenly feel energised - have taken the tabs but what the heck.

I am 70+++++++++,still feel young at heart :-D

Just reading through these threads again and there are quite a few who beat me,which is nice to know.

Calderdale.....my dad always said ...leave the table when you feel you could eat a little bit more......and chew your food 32 times...think that's why Im a slow eater even now!
Notice the leave the table....meals were always eaten at the table by everyone,no matter what so called class!!

Any more - GR say they have 13million registered - stories are absolutely fascinating - keep them coming.

The numbers given by GR are very misleading sadly. Many of the 13 million will have joined, left their tree online and moved on by now, allowing their membership to lapse.

Only a tiny percentage of membership use these boards unfortunately which is why we ask GR to promote them more.

There have been several discussions about this this over the years with lots of facts and figures quoted - I just don't have a head for figures though. :-(

Hmmm, according to some of these, at 75, I am a mere teenager!!

Now that I have turned sixty I wonder if it might be time I stopped dressing like a teenage hooligan.

Maybe if I stopped acting like one it might be a start.
