Thanks BIds, I always hate to find a lot of feathers in the garden - neighbours' cats do come in at time, despite a cat scarer and a mad woman screeching at them if she sees them (I love cats but not where the birds are)

Yesterday I cleared out a big pile of empty plant pots stacked inside a redundant compost bin, it stunk to high heaven so I guessed there might be mice but still got a shock when one popped up in front of me! He/she scarpered pdq so I was able to continue the sort out, he won't be happy that I have destroyed his hideout. He looked like the one that comes out at night and shares the food with the hedgehogs, have pics of them both at the same tray of food in the past. Seems he is a bit of a loner, nearly always just him popping out for food at night but hope he is ok and has found a new place to hide.
