Please, does anyone know if it would be possible to find out which schools my Mum went to in Brighton. Also FIL in Stratford.

Hi Phyll.

East Sussex Archive hold recrds of Brighton &Hove,including school records,,,,,,as you can imagine the large number of schools that would be in those areas that unless a school name was known wouuld be a task,,,,,,if you know the name the archive could say if they hold them or not,or where if any have been deposited,,

there is a 75 year closure on school records.

I have an idea of the area she may have gone to school in but not the names. I could start with the area nearest her home at the time. The years would have been 1913 upwards for a few years always assumeing records were not destroyed by fire or something else. Thanks for your adivce , I will see what I can find.

If you meant Stratford in London, Ancestry hold

London, England, School Admissions and Discharges, 1840-1911

which might cover it. Your father would have had to have attended school in or before 1911 to have been included.

The originals are held at the London Metropolitan Archives who might held later ones.
